Not too many gowns beat those gorgeous "gates-of-hell" surcotes. Beautiful depiction of a 1300s noble-woman.

This is absolutely beautiful!!! How long did it take you to make everything? Are you a costume major?

Well thank ya! Actually, it's about the most simple thing I've ever made, it took me 2 afternoons just kinda goofing off. I'm actually a computer major and I'm just taking a costuming class. I've been doing historical costuming for a while, but I wanted to make my sewing more professional, so the class seemed to be the way to go.

well it does look like you majored in it lol. It is beautiful nice job. I hope you get a really good grade on it. Why have you been doing historical costuming for a while?

Well thank you! I joined the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) going on 3 years ago.
They're an international society, and what they do is study all aspects of life from 600AD-1602AD,and every few months a bunch of members get together for an event, and all dress up in their period clothes, and teach classes and set up displays and compete in competitions to show what they've learned, and to further their knowledge even more.
And since you can't really find clothes for that in just any store, a lot of people make their own clothes.
It's a lot cheaper than buying them from specialty places, and being the broke college student I am, I'm all for cheap!
But lots of people can't sew, and can't afford to buy stuff commercially, or want nicer stuff than most places offer, and so there's always someone wanting someone to sew for them.
Long explanation, sorry. XD

I completely understand. I know what SCA is I'm thinking about visiting the chapter near us. I play amtgard personally so I make my own garb as well and also for other people, mostly guys who are too lazy to sew or don't have the ability lol. How long have you been playing?

You totally should! We have quite a few amtgard people that have joined our group. I've been playing for almost 3 years now.

That there's always something new to learn there. Because they cover all aspects of life from back then, there's always something new and exciting. I can go fight, when I get tired I can go hang out with the musicians, or help illuminate scrolls, or learn more embroidery, or take a class on brewery.
I get bored really fast, but I honestly think this is one hobby where I will never run out of things to do.

No! They really are easy! The dress is only 4 pieces, and I already had another one to pattern it from, all 4 pieces are the same, so fold your fabric in half, cut 2 sides at once, then insert a triangle in front and in the back, add buttons or lacing and you're done! (and the sleeves, but they're only 1 piece, and equally easy.)

Aw~ you'd get it if you saw it! It's a million times easier than your dress! (no zippers!)
