How in the hell.. how do you get it so refined? I don't even understand. Like, I literally cannot comprehend it. Do you blend with your finger or something? All of my pictures end up turning out like #1 or #2.

I'm far from brilliant, I need to practice to grow as an artist. It's a good feeling to see improvement over the years.

I use a piece of clean paper under my hand so I don't smudge the graphite.

Hi, after coloring in the area lightly, I then rubbed the whole area down with a piece of plain tissue till blended. I repeated this technique adding layers of darker graphite as I went along and lifting highlights with a kneaded eraser. The smooth Bristol paper is great for blending nice and smooth. ~Linda

maybe it's just cuz i'm too impatient, or maybe i gotta start drawing bigger so i can make more room for details, i dunno.
either way, you are amazing and i'll be putting you on my devwatch
keep it up!

I can see why you chose a picture like this to practice skin tone (I don't think she could show anymore skin if she tried). It's a very interesting post in that you've kept track of the various stages you go through as you draw, I find it interesting to see how the progression looks. A lot of artists only post finished works without much evidence of technique but this is really wonderful.

RogueDerek, it is her! I changed her face and took about 2 inches off of her all around...she was perfect for skin tone practice.
