"The Kaimeran rhinoceros is a species unique to the planet, but closely related to the Javan rhinoceros of Earth. They came through the portal from Southeast Asia around 2 million years ago. They are almost twice the size of their Earthly kin. Other divergent features include the nostrils moving down an elongated upper lip, forming a pseudo-trunk, thicker skin, and a longer horn. Their skin already offered good protection against the stabbing claws of the megaraptoran apex predators, and at 3 inches in parts, the hard skin of the Kaimeran rhinoceros offers one of the best defenses against the megaraptorans that share their territory. Their horn is also larger, which plays a more defensive role than their Earthly relatives, who do not have to fend of predators larger than they are. The rhinoceros is common in the forests and were once prolific in the wetlands that filled in at a similar time of their arrival without much competition, but the arrival of the more social, fertile, adaptable, and aggressive hippopotamus .5 mya has greatly reduced their wetland range. They were hunted to extinction in the Free States and Qajar, predominantly for their hide. Despite these challenges, the Kaimeran rhinoceros is still a common sight in the warm rainforests to the north and east, and also on Pakardia."
