Description Gryphon or Gryfinch? You decide

I've always dreamed of creating something like this, and with the fantasy fair coming up I wanted to give it a try. Both parts used where damaged. The mouse was dragged in by the neighborhood cat and was missing bits of the head, and the bird came from a breeder and died during molting and was thus missing the rump feathers.

~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
The animals used in this project died a natural cause. NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy only and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.

Very nice.
I'm not too keen on mixing animal parts together, but under the circumstances..
It is a very beautiful piece.

Thinking about making something like this.
Found a headless woodpecker a week ago, it's been sitting in my freezer since.

This is amazing! Real nice job joining the two <3 Oh,and by the way,how come there is the little blue band on it's front leg? (Or well, how come you kept it on?)

(woah this is very old i know xD)

I think it's because it's from a breeder, and so they had a band around them to keep track of either the fact that it was theirs, or the gender - blue may denote a male bird. OvO

sorry about that

No matter how many times I see this picture, I'm always STUNNED. Tis one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I love the concept, the animal decisions, the positioning, ALL OF IT!

Flawless joining of the two. I'm currently learning taxidermy and this piece in particular is one of the reason why I'm learning the trade.
Truly gorgeous work!

This is extremely creative, I normally wouldn't like Taxidermy (because the animals are dead. -shivers-) but this is just completely artistic. <3

Death is part of life, and I believe that once the soul leaves the body the shell remains. If done respectfully I think taxidermy is a great art, and one that can provide many generations with inspirational and educational material without having to disturb the living specimen.

As for my wee GryFinch, I'm glad you like him Thank you kindly!

*applauds*
I am always glad to see someone else accept death, and not only that, but feel fascinated by death as well.
I am trying hard to get into taxidermy but I haven't been able to find any ethically-sourced pelts.

I'll be honest: Taxidermy makes me feel a bit unsettled, but it's nice when the "taxidermist" don't kill for the purpose (let them die naturally).

But on the brighter side... This is great!!!

Illahie In reply to TheDarkestRaven1608 [2011-12-18 14:53:06 +0000 UTC]

I completely agree. I get a hard time from people that don't understand the work I do, but if they take the time to listen I can almost always educate them.

Death is part of life, as simple as.. what I do with the remains allows the image of the animal to be part of us for many MANY more years to come in hopes of educating the next generation
