it's a technoligy where the pilot is placed in the middle of a spherical panoramic monitor... or in the most advanced versions... the pilot sleeps inside the unit and live the battle as if his body was the plane...

Well, its more the fact that if you add a missile pod under the hull, and the wing guns, it looks exactly like the fighter from Silpheed Lost Planet.

Yeah, its the 'SA-77 Silpheed'. There's a few images out there FAR better then that one (including a wallpaper image that has ungodly levels of detail), but I only skimmed off stuff from the first two pages Google showed.

You should probably cut the engines down to the two rear for cost, replace the front one with senors or something. But that's just my suggestion.

actually that third one is an emergency engine that can be replaced with other stuff as ECM-ECCM sensors or launchers for counter measures ecc...
