Bored, and I've been wanting to do this for a while.

That's the jacket that inspired Stranger.

It was a Sunday. I was seriously depressed for one of the first times I could remember in a long time. My best friend's dog was dying, her (at the time) drug-addict dad was being abusively cruel and insensitive about the whole thing, and I felt entirely at a loss as to what I could do to help.

I wanted to draw, so I took my sketchbook and sat out on my trampoline. It was a nice day. Cool, slight breeze, cloudy. I liked to sit here to draw or just think or be alone. The safety net around the trampoline went all around it, and felt like a barrier against the world. It made me feel safe and secure.

I sat there and stared at the blank paper, with a million different thoughts running through my head. I just kept feeling worse and worse, and I just couldn't draw anything. All I could do was sit and stare.

I tossed the sketchbook aside, pulled the hood over my head, crossed my arms in front of me and laid on my stomach. I buried my face in my arms. The hood hiding my head and the sleeves hiding my arms and hands made me feel safe and calm, like I could cut myself off from my surroundings and just be alone. Just make everything else stop. I just laid there. Completely motionless, completely awake. Probably for an hour or two. Trying not to think at all.

After a while I felt calmer. I sat up and grabbed the sketchbook and drew this: [link]

She seemed to embody something about me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I knew she meant something to me.

She's come to represent my inner soul, my psyche, my muse. Some things about her are representative of my will to create, some are of things that have happened to me to make me the way I am today.

And thus was born Stranger.
