They took the girl from the manga and she became Green in firered and leafgreen. Since there was no girl previously.

Actually, in Japan the Red and Green versions were released together. Blue came later. The Green Version was never released in anywhere but Japan. So the characters are named properly here, not in the english-dubbed manga.
It's a common mistake. :3
