The build-up to this moment could have been so much stronger.Β She was spread across his entire time stream.Β That's just writer's gold to work with yet most episodes are unwatchable.Β Capaldi was robbed as his time as the Doctor. Poor writing across the board.Β It was more fun watching Clara pretend to be the Doctor.

I loved seasons 8-9. There was some bad writing, but not the worst. (Then again, I didn't like 11 and Clara together, so 12 and Clara were a pleasant surprise.)
Where they dropped the ball for me was in season 10, where Clara was barely alluded to, the mystery box was a dud, and the Doctor acted completely OOC.

Me too, but only under different writers. The 10th season was a mess of politics, with plotholes out the whazoo. The mystery was bad, the writing was bad, and the Doctor was OOC so often. I can't bring myself to rewatch it, a whole 1/3 of 12's run, which makes me sad.

I agree! I wish 12 had had better writers who would've given him better plots that Twelve and Peter Capaldi would have deserved
