I saw a few in Helsinki this summer when I visited. They have quite the stylish hair.

I have to say that's one of the things I quite like about Helsinki, that probably most don't. It isn't all touristy. Wherever lots of people go, is pretty much exactly where I don't want to go. I've visited Paris last year, and that place was just awful. The architectural sites were incredible, but it was swarmed with so many people it was hard to enjoy it. They're also quite rude and aggressive, especially when they realize you don't live there. So watch your wallet. ~_~
I will say the one big disappointment in Finland was the pizza. Does no one in Finland know how to make pizza properly? XD
There were a few tourist locations in Helsinki, it's probably the Cathedral and Soumenlinna. There was also a bit of a tent market by the docks at the southern end.
Most of the good stuff I feel is off the beaten path. Some day I would like to be there in winter, and even hopefully explore north to see the northern lights.

Ah yes, I understand that well. To tell the truth, I seldom encounter many tourists there anyway, so yeah I guess. I've been to Paris, too, but I was a bit young to really pay attention to such things. Still I think Paris is better than Rome, that place was anything but tourists friendly. A city I did like, though, was Copenhagen, but my visit there was brief.
The pizza? Where did you have your pizzas in Helsinki? XD I would probably recommend Pizza Hut.... They also say Dennis has good pizzas, but I can't remember that I've ever been to one. ^^' A bit late advice, I suppose. XD
What was wrong with our pizzas?
Yeah, I know those places. Suomenlinna has a bit of an interesting name, though, meaning "The castle of Finland" or something along those lines in Finnish, while the Swedish name, Sveaborg, means more "the castle of the Swedes", which... Well. I'm not even sure what the reason for this is.
Someday I should go to Helsinki and try to play a tourist, take a map under my arm and just wander around....
Up north- don't get me started. I love northern Finland, dearly. And if you ever visit there, you will understand why, I hope. It's beautiful, and the nature is... unique, and the silence. I've never experienced that silence anywhere else.
I've only seen the northern lights once, and those were weak and almost unnoticeable. So if you travel to northern Finland just to see them... There is a risk that there won't be any. But even if you don't, I don't think you will waste money, there is so much else to experience.

The pizzas are these rubbery flat discs that flap around. I was at several different places and it seems to be the style or something. The toppings also seem very sad and given very sparingly. Most of them I had it was like they spaced out 10 pepperonis. X)
I suppose Pizzahut sadly would be one of the few options that comes close to New York or Chicago style of pizza.
Even still if there is some sort of preference for this, it seems so weird because it just all seems so low quality. It's as if they don't give the yeast any time to rise.
Not sure if you can see this, but this is the kind of pizzas I make: sta.sh/0b4rokimxv8
I would love to just check out the northern parts anyway, like you were saying. I'm also a bit concerned that there might be a good risk of getting separated from civilization and disappearing. X)

Yes, I suppose that is all too true haha some trend, you could say. "Rubbery flat discs that flop around", pretty describing for some. In many normal pizzerias I guess that is what you will get, in Finland. Except for the pan pizzas. As for the topping... The one pizza I had in Rome didn't even have half of the topping we get here, so I don't know. I suppose that varies from place to place.
Yes, I can see that, and it looks delicious!
Ah, but I believe disappearing for a month or two could be healthy for most busy human beings! XP I could do with some time away from civilization...
Anyhow, the northern parts of Finland is like a second home to me. I used to travel there every single new year with my family when I was small, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Now... These trips happen more seldom, but they are always worth the wait.

Well the disappearing was that I ran into some trouble, because I don't know what I'm doing out there, and well nature reclaiming me. X)
It seems like there might be some extreme weather situations and hard terrain out there.
Any great spots I could plug into Google Earth?

As long as you don't crawl into some bear hole or something, you should be okay.
There are worse fates than being reclaimed by nature.
Extreme weather situations? That depends on what you think is extreme. The temperature can get below -30 degrees Celsius, and there is usually a lot of snow (in winter, of course), but that's not so extreme in my opinion, but I'm used to it, I guess. Hard terrain, that depends on where you go. Many places are actually kind of flat, but there are mountains too, and lots of untouched nature.
There are many great spots, me, I'm most familiar with Äkäslompolo, Ylläs. Another great place is Saanatunturi at Kilpisjärvi, but of what I've heard that place has become a bit more "touristy" at this point, sadly. Hmm, there is Pallastunturi, which isn't that far away from Ylläs, oh and Inari is kind of known, but I haven't been there. You could look up Kittilä, maybe. And Kolari if you want to try your luck, the place's name means "car crash".

Oh wow thanks. Going to go pin all these down and look at them. Kolari, hmmm. The meaning of that name makes me wonder. XD
I plan on eventually living in Finland, so if I find myself with money in my pocket then. I will have these bookmarked. Maybe even the next time I visit I can plan a visit to at least one spot or two.

I don't know why it's called that, it just is. I've been there only briefly, you know, I don't want to risk it. XD
Oh, that's cool! I hope your plans will come true. Yet don't restrict yourself to these only, there are loads of places to explore and to see, and at each place there is enough to experience to last for really long periods of time, if you know what you're doing.

Unfortunately I don't know what I'm doing. X)
I have to be restrictive, since I don't have the flexibility yet to travel as I will. Maybe that'll change one day and I can just wander around as I like.

....XP
Just take a map and you'll be alright, if you managed to explore Helsinki then you will get the point of Lapland, too, I believe.
It would be wonderful to wander about as one pleases, yet I suppose not many have that. But to see some part of northern Finland is better than to see none.

Well, Helsinki is easy. If you get totally lost, just walk until you see a bus stop and find a bus that goes back to central. X)
I'll still go, but I really would want to make sure I plan well, and try to understand what kind of surprises I might encounter.

Skiing seems like a lot of fun, but my ankles are apparently a bit too flexible and unstable for certain sports. -_- I've had to quit certain things, because catastrophic ankle sprains are inevitable. I had my ankle roll and my foot turn upside down once. It ripped everything up and I had to have my bones pinned back together. Not good times. ~_~ About a years worth of not being able to walk very much. So when I look at skiing now, I can just imagine all the wonderful things that can happen to my ankles. X(
The cottage idea sounds nice though. There was this place Kakslauttanen that looks neat at least in concept, but probably too expensive. X)

Aah, I see. That's too bad. :/ That doesn't sound nice at all. Putting it like that, no, skiing probably isn't such a good idea. Well, there are other ways to explore, too, for instance I know snow scooter safaris are arranged in many places. Never been on one of those, though.
Yeah, I've always preferred a cottage over a hotel or something. It's so much more cozy, and just better in general. Maybe a bit more expensive, but worth it I think.

Yeah it's fine. I'm getting enough scar tissue that I've had my fill of physical thrills. XD
For now I'm going to stick with stealing energy from photons out of the air with wizardry, and issuing these transistors to share what they've "seen" with as many people who happen by.
