i happened upon karen chance when i got a book that had 4 novellas from different authors, and i mainly got it for Patricia Briggs' story in it. I liked the piece Karen had written, and found the Cassie Palmer series through it, and am addicted! I'm gonna have to take a closer look at the others in the series, Especially Tomas, who was one of my favorites in the books, and was upset to not see him more often

I think this is beautiful and I do love that Billy Joe is shown in the mirror, it was a lovely touch. Can I be nosy and ask why you chose to have her with the short, ringlet, up-do? The original book covers featured her with longer/straight hair so I am wondering why you decided on this route? This is by no means a complaint about your choice, as I find wonderful but more a curiosity. I honestly can't remember the description of her in the series, so for all I know you've got it dead on and the original images were far too inaccurate. Lol.

That's actually my favorite part of this painting, it actually looks like the Cassie described in the books. She is always mentioned as being a curly blond, and usually on the shorter side in hair length, nothing like the straight hair depicted on the covers.

I am currently reading Embrace the Night and in that book and the one previous to that she is described like that

Actually this hairdo was Karen's choice
She can be getting ready for a party or social event out or something, and thus put her hair up for something special

Very cool. I am sorry to be so inquisitive. I am just very excited to see one of the most wonderful artist's that I have had the pleasure of meeting here on dA working with one of my favorite authors. You are an inspiration to me because I spent two and a half years getting a Graphic Design and Illustration degree with the hopes of using it to Illustrate fiction books. I was told by an instructor at my school that the kind of art that I do would never get me a career. So when I see what you do and how well it's worked out for you it gives me hope that I can pursue that dream.

Your teacher sounds like an unintelligent man, because the fact is, many cover art works are made out of photomanipulations (look at Karen Chance's, and tons of other books around the world!)
