Your head was pounding when you woke up. Feeling to dizzy to even move, you opened your eyes, squinting at the brightness that you were met with.

“God… how much did I drink last night?”

Rolling over to your side, you snuggled further into your pillow when you realised that you weren’t in your own bed. No… the pillow you were sleeping on wasn’t as fluffy as the one you had back home, and the bed was a tad bit too hard. What made you sit up in a hurry though, was the fact that the scent surrounding you belonged to a male. The beddings held a subtle masculine scent, tinged with an alluring smell you couldn’t quite place a finger on.

Waking up in a stranger’s bed was never a good thing, and even you, in your hungover state, was aware of that.

Your vision blurred from your sudden movements, head feeling heavy as you surveyed your surroundings. From what you could tell, you were in a small wooden hut. There were few pieces of furniture around, and the entire room was styled very traditionally, giving off a very rustic vibe.

You looked down, face paled when you saw that you weren’t wearing your own clothes. Instead, you were wearing a kimono, a couple of sizes too big.

If your head didn’t hurt so much, you’d probably be freaking out right now.

Squeezing your eyes shut, you tried to recall what had happened, letting the events of the previous night rush through your mind.

You remembered that you were invited to a friend of your friend’s Halloween party that was held in a cabin in the middle of the woods. There were lots of people attending, and with the lively atmosphere, you drank too much and wandered off from the cabin for some air.

Dressed in your party clothes, you stepped out of your friend’s car, having drove up the mountain to a wooden cabin belonging to a friend of a friend. There was a Halloween Party that night and located in the midst of the forest, music could be heard from miles away.

Entering the fancy house alongside your friends, you greeted some familiar faces along the way. There were tons of food and drinks around, and although you weren’t much of a drinker, the atmosphere gave you a surge of courage and you ended up drinking a little bit too much.

The house was filled with people dancing, and intoxicated as you were, all you really need was a breather. You stumbled in your gait as you made your way outside into the cool night air.

Wandering further and further away from the house, you didn’t even notice that you were lost until you realised that you could no longer hear the blasting music that sounded through the vicinity of the cabin.

You were barely able to stand upright when you caught sight of a light ahead. Walking towards it, you noticed that the light came from inside a small shrine.. The cold was chilling you to the bone, teeth chattering as you shuffled down the stone path.

The last thing you remembered before you passed out mid-step was meeting a handsome stranger.

“Finally awake?”

Jerked up in shock from hearing that low drawl, you looked up to see a man sitting leisurely in the corner of the room, gaping at him, confused. The door hadn’t opened and you could have sworn he was not sitting there just a moment ago.

“Er… yeah…”

He was dressed in a kimono as well, and unlike you, he looked completely at ease wearing it. Hair black as night, his messy locks stuck out in all directions, falling over part of his face, giving him a look of mystery.

“Wait…” You frowned, gears clicking in your head. “You’re the guy from last night!”

“Considering how you were completely wasted, I’m rather surprised you even remember me,” he said with a smirk.

“I… I really don’t remember much from last night… All I know is that I was lost in the woods and saw a shrine. And before I passed out, I saw you…”

“So you don’t remember what you did after that?”

“No, sorry…”

“You don’t remember kissing me?” He deadpanned.

”What?!” Stuttering in shock, you pulled the blanket closer around you. “What did you do to me?”

He laughed darkly, and all of a sudden, he was crouching right in front of you, jaws clenched and a look of menace in his eyes as he whispered into your ear.

“The real question, is what you did to me.”

Fear struck you in waves. There was no way anyone could move that quickly, and you were sober enough to know that you weren’t seeing things. His eyes were practically gleaming, a tail had appeared behind him, and the pair of fluffy ears that peeked out of his hair certainly wasn’t there before.

“…W-What are you?”

“See, this is why we avoid you humans,” he scoffed, letting a long finger run across your cheek. “You’re always so forgetful… so naïve… and so very… vulnerable.”

Then it dawned on you.

“You’re a kitsune…”

“What could have possibly given me away,” he mused sarcastically, his breath fanning against your skin.

“S-Stay away from me!” Terrified, you pushed him away.

It all happened in an instant. The youkai was thrown against the wall, his back hitting the wood with a loud thud.

“That was unnecessary…” He muttered as he rubbed the back of his head.

A nearly inaudible whimper made him look up, and when he saw that you were huddled in a corner on the verge of tears, he sighed.

“Hey look, I’m sorry, alright? I was just messing around a little. I didn’t mean to frighten you that much.”

Seeing as you were scared stiff, he continued, “let me introduce properly myself to you, [Name]-sama. My name is Kuroo Tetsurou and I’m your familiar.”

“…How did you know my name?”

“I’m your familiar now,” he said matter-of-factly, “I’m supposed to know things about you.”

“Familiar?”

You flinched in alarm when he shifted and he held up his hands, showing you that he meant no harm. “I promise I won’t hurt you. Please don’t be afraid of me.”

Studying his face for hints of deceit, you nodded hesitantly when you found none.

Satisfied, he moved to sit in front of you, leaving a short distance to give you some space. “Familiars are spirits bound to serve their masters and protect them from harm. The contract of familiars are sealed with a kiss, so last night when I was trying to help you and you kissed me…”

“…I made you my familiar…” You breathed out, finishing his sentence.

“Exactly.”

“How do I end the contract?”

“That’s not possible. The only way to end the contract is for you to die.”

“Oh my god… this can’t be happening…” you groaned, covering your face with your hands.

“Too good to be true?”

“Far from it…”

Kuroo chuckled lightly at that, lips curving up into a grin. “You know, [Name]-sama, I think we’re going to get along just fine.”

“Really?” You peeked up at him through your fingers.

“Yeah,” he nodded, “We’re going to be together for a long long time.”
