a few days ago i drew a headshot of queen ruby (my favorite queen) and had a lot of fun with her jewelry and necklaces and stuff. and since i really like drawing and designing dragons and i want to work more on making the different tribes look unique in my drawings, i thought i should try drawing all the acting queens.

design notes:

moorhen - i struggle with drawing mudwings and moorhen's drawing here is definitely my least favorite. however, hopefully i'll get better at drawing them with time, and some unique features i'd like to give them is large horns and droopy, cow-like ears.

thorn - i had fun w her necklaces. sandwings are far from my favorite tribe to draw, but they're bearable. thorn doesn't wear too much jewelry, at least compared to some of the other queens, but what she does wear holds significance to her.

coral - she's a bit of a flashy queen, and i like to imagine that seawings, being such a colorful and creative tribe, use colorful paints and stuff to make themselves look nicer. and since her name is coral, she covers herself in bright coral pink paint.

ruby - i made this headshot before all the others, and it's definitely the one i spent the most time on. ruby's one of the more modest queens, but i like to imagine that she enjoys dressing up in some nice jewels from time to time. i also see skywings as sort of the closest thing to a stereotypical medieval dragon, and i like to imagine that they have more horns on their head (like on their jaws) than other dragons.

snowfall - i find icewings a bit of a pain to design, just because i don't find their color palettes too creative or easy to work with. they're all pale blue or white, but maybe i can get better at designing them in the future. i gave snowfall a nice saphire earring, maybe in tribute to her mom.

glory - i also don't like how this headshot turned out. i think i made her face too bulky, where rainwings are supposed to be very nimble and slender dragons. i gave her a flower crown because rainwings don't have much treasure and i think glory would wear a flower crown.

wasp - i think i made her colors a bit too... greenish. hivewings are a challenge to draw, just because of all the weird spikes on their head, but i really like their design as it's very different from other WOF dragon designs. i only gave her a sharp gold earring because i don't think that wasp's really the type to wear jewelry.

hazel - definitely the least queen-like dragon here (visually speaking, at least). she doesn't wear any jewelry or anything. i really love designing leafwings, just because there's so many options. i liked drawing hazel here.

unfortunately this didn't cover all the tribes (RIP nightwings and silkwings) but i was still glad for the practice.
