A Coral and an Albatross! For some reason I never see Queen Coral headcanons that really feel like Queen Coral to me? Like, they don’t project the opulent, cold attitude that she has. She’s so fixated on having a living heir that she doesn’t care about her daughter’s well-being, her kingdom or her male children. But why bother conveying all that in a design when you can just make her kind of pouty?As for Albatross, I just feel like people lean too much on IceWing traits and don’t let themselves explore how varied a single tribe’s appearances can get. Also, I needed someone to fill the other side of the canvas.

I have the same thing With coral... maybe try making her snout more like tsunamis but with a more rounded brow. And maybe also longer horns? Tell me if this was helpful but if not sorry...

Definitely I agree with u on how ppl just copy the "official" design and ignore individual traits of the tribes (even those described in text). Also when u draw something different they go "hey, u made a mistake, on the cover it looked like that-and-that!".
I haven't drawn my versions of Seawings and Icewings yet, but I like how much Coral has different head shape from Albatross and that u did something sensible with the "whiskers" that ppl mostly picture as some tiny, useless "appendices".

Thank you!! And yeah, people treating the cover / internal art as like, the limit of what character design can be is so stifling for creativity. Where's the fun if every character design can fit on a single base? Expanding from what canon gives is half the fun!
