Description insects never cease to amaze me. This is a Willamette Valley Widow Skimmer (Libella Luctosa) there were males nearby, but they wouldn't hold still long enough. This female hung out in the same area for aseveral minutes before leaving my yard.

I was very luck that day. that little dragonfly let me take almost 20 something pictures of him/her. bugs are tricky creatures, just move slowly and be patient. thanks!
