Wolf looking up. This is an early piece, at the time I was still trying to find my way with digital art.Reference pic used.
Method, block colours added then the dodge and burn tool used, the smudge tool was then taken over everything to create what I believed to be the best method for making fur at the time. This method I got from a tutorial either somewhere here on DA or from a digital art magazine.
I'd take this down but it's my most popular picture.
Believe me I cringe when I see this picture, I know how bad it really is, maybe one day I'll redo it.

You know I was thinking last night that this is probably my favorite piece of yours, or at least one of my favorites. Then I remembered that I had never favored it! Gosh how could I? Anyways in case you were wondering I put it in my Wolfish collection.

I'm curious a lot of people really like it, why? What make it one of your faves ?
Every time I look at it all I see is my naive beginnings of digital art and the awkward over use of the smudge tool

well for one thing I love the colors! The position the wolf is in, looking up at the camera (so to speak) makes it an interesting concept, as for most pictures of wolves I've seen (on this site at least) are front the side view or head on. The expression he's (she?) making has a calming air to it, he seems happy and carefree. I also like it because it's not so dark and violent as some of your other pieces are. Also, even though it is a drawing of your story, it can be abstract. Someone who doesn't know your story can just enjoy it for what it is.
Lastly, the title complements the picture.
I could probably think of more things, but those are all the ones that are off the top of my head. You should be very proud of your work! I would have never known that you were a novice at digital art, if you hadn't told me. Just think, if this is only the beginning, what your work going to be like once you get the hang of it!

Very cool. Something's kinda bothering me about the front legs, the look a bit too long. But other than that I love it! The angle is nice and the colors are pretty. The smudging is quite cool too.
That's neat that your drawing characters from your novel. Are you going to be putting your novel up? I'd love to read it

The Novel is already published, if you're in the UK it is in the public libraries.
I use to have short stories up on the net but sadly I had a character and artwork stolen, the stories were taken down along with the website. I've no plans in the near future to upload large sections of the novels again

aw that's too bad. I hate it when people do that. It took awhile for me to come on to Deviant because I was afraid of people stealing my work. But my friend told me if need be I could prove I was the owner because I own the originals. For the pieces that mean the most to me I put watermarks on.
I really wanted to share my work and receive feed back so I finally decided to open up and account. I'm really glad I did because now more than ever I am inspired to draw. It gives my something to do other than working at my job.
