This is a project that was started in June 2016. Inspired by the Pacific Rim concept art of Allen Williams, I started trying around with pencils and different creature designs with the aim to make my drawings look more three-dimensional.
The first five were done very quickly in a week and so I thought "Why not make a whole bunch of them?". I then decided on 16 (for the 4 x 4 format xD), but it kinda started to drag along from that point. I drew maybe one more during that year, then three more in the first half of 2017. This Christmas I was motivated to finally finish the project although I ran out of ideas by No. 11 or 12. I was almost about to give up and post what I had. But then I decided to put even a little more effort in the whole thing. I don't regret it. I think the last three, all drawn around New Year, turned out to be the best of the whole bunch, at least by technique. The whole thing took over 50h I guess, with 2-3 hours for every drawing + scanning and making it look presentable for dA.

I don't really have any special pencils either. Some of them are from the Grip 2001 series, others are different ones but they're so short that I can't read the model anymore xD But they are all from regular office stores.
You also need to use the right technique. Start with the softer (darker) pencils and then work yourself up to the harder ones. if you do it the other way around it will be difficult to draw on the hard pencils with a soft one. It also takes some practice ^^

No, darkest to lightest. I do the deep shades first.

Oh okay! I usually work lightest to dark...hmmm, I might give this technique a shot. Sounds fun, and it would be a nice chance for me...

As I said, using lighter pencils (the one with the H label) before the dark ones (B label) will result in making it very difficult to draw on top of the lighter colors. Same for colored pencils.

Endlich is das Ei auch ausgepresst oke. Naja was soll ich sagen, du hast im grunde schon meine komplette Meinung zu jedem einzelnen der Biester über das halbe Jahr hinweg schon bekommen xD
Ich will trotzdem nochmal betonen, wie gut sich dein Bleistiftshading gemacht hat. Jedes dieser Fellas hat etwas ganz besonderes, was vor allem durch das Shading hervor gehoben wurde. Kudos!

It all comes down to practice and routine. After a while you learn which way gets the best results&fastest.

Unterschiedliche Quellen. Wie oben gesagt kam die ursprüngliche Idee von dem Concept Art für Pacific Rim. Bei den anderen habe ich meistens einfach nur mit rumgescribbelt mit verschiedenen Formen, bis ich was hatte das mir gefallen hat. Die Idee für Nr. 8 habe ch von einem dieser Teile mit denen man Tackernadeln ziehen kann xD

._. woah! ... Deine Zeichnungen sind Gigantisch! - Hast du Quellen, die dir solch ein Wissen über die Anatomie beibringen? Ich würde nämlich meine Fähigkeiten gerne ausbauen...
Falls du also Seiten kennst oder andere Medien, die einem bessere Anatomie beibringen, dann wäre ich erfreut, vielleicht ein paar Infos von dir zu bekommen! ^^ Bitte?!

Ich habe mehrere Bücher die ich für Referenzen benutzte: Dover Atlas of Animal Anatomy, Anatomische Zeichenschule Tier+Mensch, Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs. Was jetzt nicht was für jedermann ist, aber sehr viel hilft sind echte Tierschädel.
