Purples, purples, purples everywhere! You did an awesome job integrating the light purples and dark purples into her hair, eyes, clothes, and energy coming out of her hand. The varying shades work well in tandem with each other.
I also like her smiling facial expression. Excellent work!

... you know, I'm a tad curious about your procedure in detailing hair shading. I'm actually confused about how to correctly portray "proper" shading and lighting. Think you can give me any advice?

To be honest, the best way to go about it is study actual lighting. Also find artists that you admire and would like to draw like, then try to imitate their style. I'd recommend someone better than me though. It really comes down to how you like to shade and the overall appearance you're looking for. Oh but I wouldn't upload any of those immitations. They are just for practice!
