Oh yes, it's so clear that Solomin inspired this new Watson that we see in the movie, I could even say that he kind of looks like Jude Law. But, yes, Jude is more beautiful hehe.

I agree~ actually I kinda think the Watson in 2009 movie was inspired by both Solomin and Wilson from "House"(according to what the director of "House" said, Wilson was actually inspired by Watson). One very interesting thing is RDJ's Holmes also reminds me of the Russian one played by JL. But yeah Solomin's Watson is definetly milder than Law's...at least he didn't give Holmes a punch in the face when he was annoyedXD

Well, I finished the videos a few hours ago.

I think that both Holmes and Watson were made similar to House and Wilson, maybe because we all know that House was based on Holmes. But Holmes was different. I mean, House is much more agressive than Holmes (god, its so difficult to write this!) While House is an ass, Holmes is sarcastic and shows proofs, more than just bad actions. We all see in House the logic machine, but they have to made this new Holmes more like House, because everybody was specting the reciprocal reaction. if House is like Holmes, then Holmes has to be like House. And I think that that's a bit unfear to Holmes. He is much more inteligent, he uses his sarcasm with more delicacy.

Yes, of course that he's milder, but then again, all the marketing of the movie comes into play. They were trying to catch new people, they don't care to much about the older Holmes fans. Of course they take some cares, but anyway, they tried to make them more actual, more bromance, more with the House/Wilson dinamic, because the first connection of the young people with Sherlock is House.

I loved the punch scene. And I loved the hug in the empty House.

I think that the russian series are the best. And I liked this new movie too, but I would love to see more serious Holmes in a future.

Somehow I fail to see the connection between House and Holmes. For sure House is smart, odd, etc...so is Holmes, but in my opinion they are just two kinds of people. Holmes acts oddly because he usually only concentrate on his work and ignore anything else, while House acts oddly because he doesn't have a nice personality(and sometimes lake of patient). I maybe wrong, but to me, they are very, very different. That's why I'm disagree with the opinion that RDJ's Holmes is a "subversion". Deeply down RDJ's Holmes is at least very alike with the one in the original stories. (Although they did change Watson a lot...)

The Russian series are definitely awesome <3333 Both Holmes and Watson are so adorable and yet they are still Holmes and Watson! Haha I just love how they develop the series in their own way. I don't know a lot about Russian movies, but they did a great job on this.


Talking about a serious Holmes, have you ever watched the BBC TV series, in which Holmes played by JB? That's one of the most classic Holmes TV I've ever seen. (I think you must have, but just in case)

Well, ok.

I think that the real Holmes and House are very different too, don't misunderstand me. The only thing that they seem to share is the fact that they're both brillant (but I don't find House as brillant as Holmes) they are kind of misanthrope (excusing they reasons) and don't know, they mysterious enviroment.
In the movie, Holmes was still this brillant guy, but we can't see so clearly his "mind powers" as we can see in the books, and the way he explained the case make me remember the way House explain how his patient has been an stupid.
I do love House, and I do love Holmes too. For living, I have to say that I compare myself more to House than to Holmes, but that maybe it's because we don't know that much about Holmes life.
Another thing that I said is that RDJ looks a bit more like House than to Holmes sometimes because, even if Holmes think you're a moron, he uses sarcasm and he makes you feel like a moron, but he's never going to say that you're a stupid with those words. I felt that RDJ's Holmes is waiting the exact moment to say YOU'RE STUPID!
I don't recall the exact moment but I don't know, I felt that Holmes had become too much more agresive than in the book.

Ah, you see, the russian Holmes could be an example of what I'm talking about. He is so sweet, (he have such a great love for Watson), he's so polite, and is still Holmes. You see? you can take this amazing man and focalize in his education or in his misanthropic actions. The RDJ Holmes focalizes a bit more in the second aspect. And we all know: misanthropic=House.

With Wilson/Watson is different. I don't see an evident try of victorian a Wilson with JD Watson. Maybe the dinamic of their relationship, or if you want to, their problems, but I think is different. I see Wilson as broken as House, but I don't have the same feeling with Watson. Yes, his gambling addiction, but he's still Watson, he's not going around having loving patologies or emo problems. In a way, he looks more like the russian Watson. More in the action, and not just telling us what's happening.

The russian series have a big place in my heart. The way that Holmes and Watson love each other is so clear, and the actitude of Watson, this "I'm part of the game too" that they take of the book, when others wanted just the narrator part... It's amazing. And I used to see Solomin as the best looking Watson (before JL, of course!) and the same with Holmes.

I did see the JB series. I love him, but then again, I love Holmes, so every Holmes has a little piece of my heart!


Anyway, I must confess that I didn't see all the Holmesian material out there, so I have a lot more to learn, I just have the complete image of Holmes for what I can take of the books.

I hope all this make some sense. I just left work and I had this bothering headache!!! xD

I can see your point here. To be honest I don't watch House a lot, and I don't like him very much personally(somehow my mom really like him). But he is an interesting guy. Anyway I can understand why you feel RDJ's Holmes is aggressive. Well he does try to get Watson back into his own life, doing some very childish things which the Holmes in book would never do. But I don't really think he's misanthropic. He probably didn't like the world he was living in, but he didn't dislike it as well. He just didn't like the fact that Watson was leaving him But I have to agree the case in movie is not that satisfied. I kinda hope they will pick a case from the original stories and develop it in the sequel, but it seems very unlikely to happen ;_;

(There is a big difference between House and RDJ Holmes! House is a seme and RDJ Holmes is an uke!*shot*

No just kidding...)

But I have to agree every work you said about the Russian series. The series is just a true love<3 Actually I'm thinking about drawing a fan art of Russian Holmes and Watson for you, is there any particular scene you wanna see?

There's a scene, I think it was in the beginning, when Holmes hugs Watson after this had been hit in the head, that's one of my favorites, but any you want is perfect. Aww the best birthday gift ^^ (well, the perfect would be a Holmes for myself, but we can't get that, can we?)

I read all the stories in Chinese when I was in the secondary school. The one I read just translated "The Red-Headed League" into 红发会,which means "The Red Hair Group/Meeting". I have to agree with you that 19 century English are truely tough...;_;

When you read them in english I recommend you to find "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" book, it has small letters and it is kind of big, but it makes it a lot easier ^^.
