Description I did not take this photo. I couldn't have, since I'm in it.

My Dad took this one on October 9, 1976 in Kilsyth, Tennessee. That's me in the red shirt waving to the engineer, just 10 days after my 7th birthday. That's my Mom standing beside me.

For the railfans among my watchers, that's five ALCo C420s leading an empty unit coal train back to the coal mines of Eastern Kentucky.

Reproduced 35mm Slide

EDIT - Many thanks to Chris for the extra post-processing work on this one. He really brought it out nicely (just going to show that I really, really need better software...).

This is an excellent photo from what I would consider the greatest era railroading had in this country.

Now I know I'm an old fart lol.

LOL! Just 20 years difference between the two shots!

I'm barely 24. There's a 27 year difference between mine's and yours.

LOL! I guess me and Chris are both old farts then!

It looks like You, Me and Chris are old farts. Guess who's chasing trains now?

See, I managed to have a friend who had it and the dough necessary was nil.

Indeed it did! My Dad worked for the railroad pictured. Went to work for them in the fall of 1969, a few weeks after I was born, and took disability retirement in 1989. I grew up around trains.

Wow Robert! That shot was taken on my 16th birthday. What a sweet day. I always wave to the engineer...STILL! Thanks for this. I grew up watching the "Circus Train" go through every summer. That was the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus Train from Baraboo, Wisconsin going to a parade in Milwaukee. I'll get you pictures of that train. If you ever get to Baraboo, WI: it is WELL worth the stop. I've also seen the "Orient Express" in Germany. I want to take the Napa Valley train through Napa. All these are on my bucket list. Thanks Robert.

That's pretty darn cool!

The RB&B&B train used to come up through my hometown in Tennesse when it would leave Florida. Saw it several times. Sometimes when the train would stop to change crews they would get the elephants out and exercise them.

You're welcome. When I was about a year younger than your were in the photo I had the pleasure to ride on a L&N passenger train. I don't remember it's name but it was pulled by a steam engine. Guess it must have been around 1950.

Where did you ride to and from? I can probably figure out which train it was from that.
