Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

So you wanted me to give you a critique of this image.
First of all the stars isn't something I'd bother myself with. They are just a lazy mans way of reading.

I can see clearly what you are trying to accomplish with the location and the pose, it shows me that you have an eye for what you're doing which is really worth more and more as the technicalpart becomes less and less technical if that makes sense. I mean you'll learn how to operate the camera to the level you want.

The 3 big ones (iso, aperture and shutterspeed) are all fine. Fast enough to freeze the moment and the aperture is wide enough to blur everything apart from her face.

The technical thing you can begin practising to improve is to use manualfocus. The reason I'm telling you is because the eye closest to us is out of focus, making it blurry, this is a distraction to us as viewers. The autofocus will more often than not focus in areas that you don't want it to - it's attracted to contrast and will seek to focus that.

As mentioned you're showing a good vision on how you want it. Make the technical better and this will exponetially make your images "hit" even harder e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

A little tip when it comes to white balance. You've chosen a neutral line right now. Adding or subtracting temperature in the image (don't go overboard with this), will give different dimension to the image. Adding warmth will make this look like a happy wandering in the wilderness, making the temperature lower will have the opposite impact.

Hope this was helpful e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Hello!

First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to write this wonderful critique, I truly appreciate it. Thank you for the compliments and all the advices you gave me. I always use manual focus, but I agree the face is a bit out of focus. That's what you get for taking self-portraits, always harder to focus right In this case though, the eye is blurred because there was a leaf/branch in front of it that I hadn't noticed when I looked at the photo on the camera. Oh well!

Thanks again, I truly appreciate it!

You are very welcome

As I said, it's a great idea for a portrait. I think it'll take several shots to get a good focus. You could try singlepoint auto-focus to get the job done.

This is a wonderful photo! I really love the emotion and ambition you've presented here. The sense of wonder and curiosity is very well portrayed. However, the closest to the viewer really takes away the focus because of the way it looks. It is out of focus and almost creepy. I'm not the best at critiquing photography (I'm more trained in traditional media) but the camera should have had focus on the eye closest to the camera. The eye farther away wouldn't be so much of an issue if it were to be blurred. But other than that, it's truly a magical photograph and really expresses a lot. Great job, keep it up!

that's a very beautiful portrait
I love the pattern the shadow of the branches makes on her face
and the lightning is perfect
well done
