Description Malay language has two official forms - Malaysian and Indonesian - and many unofficial pidgins or creoles. The most basic symbol of it is flag of Indonesia , containing royal Malay colors. It is basis for pan-Malay flag as well as specific Malaysian and Indonesian linguistic flags. I don't like state flags for these languages, because the countries are multilingual and Malay is spoken in Brunei, Singapore and East Timor too. In Indonesian New Guinea is spoken distinct dialect, Papuan Malay. Although speakers are shifting to standard Indonesian, it has its own Wikipedia Incubator . The flag is combination of Malay stripes and typical Papuan bird present on flag and roundel of Papua New Guinea. It is symbol of dual identity, as this , this and similar flags.
