I'm sorry I'm late with the update. Suddenly not having Thursday to work on it threw things off a bit.Anyway here's another extra comic. I plan to do one after every gym battle to go into more depth with the gym leaders because I've spent far too much time developing their characters not to.
I don't usually like Falkner in most nuzlockes and he's really quite lame in the game, so I really wanted to do a different take on him. This is essentially my explanation as to how he became gym leader and why he uses his father's pokemon. It's also your first real look into the kind of drama you'll see pop on in my nuzlocke every now and then.
I'll be opening Q&A later on today/tonight.
Still trying to make up my mind about this kind of shading. :T

Me too, so I decided to make a reason. I little gruesome perhaps, but it was for the sake of establishing character. I totally didn't do it because I felt tragic backstory was necessary for just about everyone :U

Falkner unintentionally ended up being on of my favorites. The heck dude, you were always on of my least fav gym leaders before. :T

Keeeeep the shading, it looks good! Putting stronger gradients in the bgs really helped, it makes the page look hell lot more lively and interesting;3
Dem biridies. I'm trying to draw some right now, they're so hard! How do you draw them so nicely ;w; I also like your take on Crobat;3
My favourite panel is the one before the last one, as i said before, I love Falkner's gentle smile and his Pidgey looks so happy as well^__^ White 'sparks' are nice touch too ;3
Aside from that, I like how much notifications that Falkner's dad received look like real official documents, if I ever have to put something like this in my comics, I'm going to ask you for help with that *u*
And I said it before, but I'll say it again, I really like your take on Falkner and how surprisingly strong and dramatic his backstory is.
A little more and I'm going to start shipping Falkner and Zephyr~~

Okai, I shall keep it up. It's pretty simple actually, so it's a quicker method than what I used before.
The birds are quickly becoming my favorite part of drawing in this nuzlocke. Thank goodness Zephyr's team always has a couple. Good luck with your birdies! I'm sure they'll turn out fine~ Asdfg that crobat. I looked up so many bat references and it still felt like I couldn't get it right.
I'm so very happy with how that panel turned out and the lineart didn't kill it either! ;w; I think it's the most accurate portrayal of his personality I've done so far. Thank you so much for noticing the documents! I thought it was going to be the easiest quickest panel because of how simple it looks, but it's actually really hard to figure out how official papers should look. I think an emblem and a signature are the only things that really helped me pull it off. I'd be happy to help if I can Β though if you ever do that.
I used to not like Falkner, but I cursed myself into liking him by spending so much time on him. XD

Yeah, I agree. To me, Falkner isn't really a very stand-out or interesting character most of the time. In game he's kind of a bit arrogant and whiny, but that's all :c But yes, the way you actually drew Falkner's process towards a breakdown, i.e. Happy at first, then looking dejected, then BAM SPLAT BLOOD ON THE GROUND! I was kinda like:"Awwww, he seems like a sweet dad!... Wow, he looks so sad ;v; I feel really bad for him now, look at that posture of utter defeat... HOLY SHIT NO HE'S DEAD AND HIS SON CAN SEE THE BLOOD "
Gosh darnit xD This whole backstory's pretty dark...
On another note, I adore how you draw bird pokemon! Every single one of them looks great in this page~ (please give me your bird-skillz )

Shading is the thing I am probably most indecisive about. :I
I struggled a bit with the transition. I didn't want to make this comic long since it's just an extra but I didn't want to just sort of be like hey here's his dad, but now he's dead. It's still rather abrupt, but I'd like to think that's not entirely bad.
I ended up making the backstory more intense to help establish a stronger character since yeah...in game Falkner is about as deep as a puddle. I needed to make him more interesting since he'll be important later on.

I really liked the way dodrio looked in that panel. You drew him (her) well. This comic has a lot more emotional impact than when I was viewing it as a work in progress. Β And the blood splatter kinda makes that panel a lot more emotionally charged. Especially if you read the notifications and let it build up. You did a really good job with this one! I could use some more excuses to draw little Falkner. Dodrio is both fun and infuriating to draw at the same time. Love drawing the heads, but that ody makes no sense.
