Description Once Upon A Time, on a budget on £175, two guys had an idea!
Richard Noble and John Ackroyd designed and drove the project..
Obviously, by the time it reached the stage you see here it did NOT cost £175! Powered by a Rolls Royce Avon engine, taken from an English Electric Lightning, it was taken to Nevada, Black Rock Desert..
KTVN TV Reno covered the build up to the run and were somewhat startled to find the vehicle parked under a bit of tarpaulin in a garage when it was not worked on by the team.. A propane torch was used to burn a straight line down the sand to 'aim for'..
On the 4th October 1984, it went for the record and shattered it, reaching 650.88mph, this was not broken until 25th Sept 1997..
It was broken by another car driven by Noble the ballistic SSC (Super Sonic Car), that reached 1,223kph! (braking the sound barrier!)

Rob
PS the SSC is here as well! Coming soon.

That has to be the fastest way I've seen to get to the supermarket.

Awesome mate, who needs rear visibility

All that's at the back is an afterburning Lighting engine and a break chute! lol
Pretty awesome mate and you can get real close!
