Oh wow! manhole cover art - love it. Had a friend who made art out of manhole covers and rusty metal. She loved rust! Super

Love this photo! The contrast, the textures & the shapes.Β  They are like twin suns.Β  It makes me think there is a Native story that follows this image & wonder how it begins & ends.

Long, long ago there were two Thunder Beings. The first two. And they were twins..... but they were not alike in all things. Although they were both mighty and powerful beyond measure, one walked a good road and the other was self obsessed and greedy. One day as they were flying through the heavens the greedy one looked up and noticed that there were two suns in the sky. They had both known this all their lives, of course.... but isn't that how it is, that sometimes you notice something that has always been there? So... the greedy one says to the good one: "Why should the animals and people have so much light? Why should they have all that warmth and comfort? I think I will take one of those suns for my own." The good one said: "Are you sure that's such a good idea? You already have so many possessions.... you've got a whole cave full of treasures. Gold and silver, millions of beads and wampum, whole head dresses that you took and never earned. You even have beautiful maidens tied up in your cave. Why? When will enough be enough?"
The greedy Thunder Being got angry and said: "You think you know so much, but you don't know me!" And off he flew towards the two suns. He said to himself: "I will take the bright white sun, which is newer than the yellow one, it will keep me warmer." But as he approached the white sun something happened. The sun was so much more mighty, so much bigger than the Thunder Being that the gravity and strength of the sun pulled the greedy Thunder Being in. And there he began to burn. No matter how much he screamed, no matter how he struggled he could not escape his fate.
His brother watched all this with sadness.... in the end he went to his brothers' cave and set the maidens free. "Go and live your lives." he said. He called all the people around and said "Here take the treasure and give it away. Some need it more than others." So to this day, we have but one sun. It is a good sun, not too hot and not too cold. And all the Thunder Beings that we know of are descended from the one good brother. Thunder Beings are so big and powerful that they may not always seem good.... but they are true and honest. They are always in tune with Nature. And that is good enough.
