Description I've recently discovered Super Sculpey and so I spent the entire day playing around with it. This was my first time using it, and when it comes to trying new materials, Snape is my go to guy.

I've faux-bronzed it and created the label with india ink.

Unfortunately, this is the best photo I could get (and believe me...I tried and I tried). There are a lot of details to it that you can't make out. Boooo.

I have process photos and a bronzing tutorial here: [link]

Hey, it looks awesome!

Did you bake the sculpey directly on the bottle? I've often wondered if it was safe to put glass stuff in the oven.

Thanks.
No, I used a heat gun.

Woah! I had no idea a heat gun would bake sculpey! Do you make your layer of sculpey really thin, or just point the gun at it forever? ...Or do you have an uber heat gun of ultimate power? >.>

It's really just flash heating it. In order to be more durable, it would have to be baked in the oven as well, but flash heating is fine for quick decorative projects that aren't going to be handled.

Very nicely done - I'm going to have to experiment with bronzing myself. Maybe a bronze fetus... *is shot*

Haha...whatever floats your boat
You'll have to let me know how your bronzing comes out.

The world needs a faux bronze fetus. Because I said so. XD

I shall do so. :3

Thank you
It was a leaky bottle in my collection and I needed some sort of base....
And when I stuck on his nose I was like, "hmm...is it too big? should I shave it down? Nah!!!"

WonderDookie In reply to hever [2008-07-26 05:41:35 +0000 UTC]

It's cool. It's sort of like a Snape caricature. Nice use of the bottle too! What did you use for the clay? Will it hold liquid?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hever In reply to WonderDookie [2008-07-26 05:57:20 +0000 UTC]

That's what I figured since I wasn't looking off of a source. It was free reign. Practice on my concept design then.

The clay is a polymer clay called Super Sculpey, but unfortunately it didn't seal up the leak. I have no clue where the leak is coming from...so I just can't keep liquid in the bottle. I was thinking about getting a gel to put in it, but we'll see.

Hey, yeah, they make those gels for doing those bouquets. I wonder if you could get some of that and color it green. That'd be cool.

Exactly....I wonder where I can get some....

I dunno. Try a flower boutique. Maybe they'd have some. Or the fake flower isle at a department store.

Oh, how amazing is this!! It's easy to tell that the camera crapped out in the details department, but it's also very obvious you spent a lot of time on this. It's so cool!! You could easily go work for the props people on the movies or for the Harry Potter theme park that'll open soon ( I think ) in florida.

Keep up the FANTASTIC work, this is so cool!

Thank you very much! It's actually a pretty small piece, and the bronzing effect is hard to capture on camera anyway.
And believe me, I've thought about becoming a props person more than once...who knows...maybe I'll end up there some day

If you are interested, I have just added progress photos and a bronzing tutorial about this piece here: [link]

Oh, how fantastic! I just checked that out and it's so cool! I would have just thought you used an actual bronze finish, but I guess not! haha. very cool.
