Totally agree with you there - I loved Patrick Troughton but Jon seized the role and ran with it (and the vintage cars and Inverness capes et al!)

An excellent season, everything was suddenly more real and threatening; UNIT seemed a little more futuristic in these 4 stories too.

I remember being slightly worried when I first watched season 7, as I'm a massive Second Doctor fan, but by the end of the first episode of Spearhead From Space, I was totally in love with all of these people. And then in later seasons from the end of the seventies and the eighties, I'd find myself lamenting the lack of UNIT in those stories. Sigh.

Yeah, shame how the Brig just slipped off the radar - never quite accepted him as a retired schoolmaster in MAWDRYN UNDEAD and Sergeant Benton a used car salesman?! Bring back the 70s!!

Agreed wholeheartedly. I mean, I liked Mawdryn Undead because precious Turlough and TWO Brigadiers but I think the Benton-sells-cars thing is something Mr. Brig told himself for weird amnesiac safety reasons, and Benton's actually still running about saving the world from space dinosaurs and the like.

I got SO MAD at Four for just upping and leaving UNIT like that. They were a team, dammit *weeps bitterly*

I guess Tom's Doctor was just too boho and footloose to be shackled to UNIT like his predecessor, loved his spiky relationship with the Brig in "..Zygons", would've loved to have seen more of that. That's a neat explanation about Benton, I'll go along with that. I hear UNIT are back again in Series 7...
