Pure madness. Had it been available before long range fighters like the P51 Mustang were deployed in great numbers, things would have been problematic for the Allied bombers.

A devastating machine. 262's were a nightmare in the air. If ha saw one, you were probably better bailing that staying and fighting. Death by shot up bomber isn't nice.
nice work mate!

Also, the 262s guns were absolutely useless against fighters, because the shells dropped off rapidly in a turn, and they went to fast to properly aim. For example, the Hawker Tempest (introduced into service at the same time and built in similar numbers) earned a kill ratio of 7:1 (6:1 against single-seat fighters), while the 262 only managed a feeble 4:1.

Actually, you were reasonably safe. Because the MK-18 possessed a low muzzle velocity, the 262s had to be within 200-300 m to be sure of a hit, and typically opened fire at 500 m (as they had to pull away before they got within 200 m to avoid a collision). This leaves a window of 300 m for firing, which the 262 could cover in as little as 2 seconds, which was nowhere near enough time to properly aim and fire (at least four seconds was necessary to do this). As a result, the 262s would be forced to follow a predictable path to attack a bomber effectively, which could be disrupted by carefully-placed crossfire between the bombers.
