Description When no paint at hand, tea will do as well... Fine liner, white gel pen, and English Breakfast Tea. The tea gave the drawing a wonderful warm 'glow'. All the different brown shades are done with tea!

I then filled the gaps in the leaves with copper ink, and used water colour for the red in the fire beetle. The size is about postcard size.Β

The leaves do remind of a William Morris tapestry, don't they? It wasn't my intend, I do admire William Morris designs, though.Β

Hiw many tea bags should I use?

Heliocyan In reply to AprilTan123 [2014-07-15 07:25:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, try it out! I used one tea bag, but it depends of course on the tea, your paper, and the look you want to achieve. Experiment, try different brands of tea, and different teas. Play with it, that's what art it's all about. Β

Thank you so much! It's rather small and not very spectacular, but I have decided to draw it again; bigger and with more of these beetles as they are normally in large groups. I can already see it in front of me...

Very beautiful, and yes, quite reminiscent of William Morris. It's impressive how many shades you can get out of one tea.

Heliocyan In reply to EpineQueen [2014-07-12 13:47:34 +0000 UTC]

It's the first time I tried, and I was quite surprised myself! This was only one kind of tea, I suppose if I tried as well Green Tea or Rooibos, which is more red, a whole colour pallet can be produced. Β
