Description After: Sandra Kuck. None of the ideas are my original ideas. Painted for practice using acrylics. I have to admit that the lace on the dress was a challenge.

You are very good at it! I never could hold a paint brush steady.
I think I always tried to paint as if I were drawing with a pencil,
and it never looked like I wanted it to.

By the way, I only started painting in around 2010 or 2011. My dad said that he wanted me to try to paint these girls looking at my calendar that I had a copy of. He wanted to see if I could draw just as well as my older brother (he draws photo-realistic drawings with colored pencils and paints).

This is what I told myself, even if I make a mistake, these are acrylics and I can just paint over them. Plus, no one was giving me a grade. And that's my advice to you. Don't be afraid to paint. Just do it.Β

Thank you for the encouragement, Helen.
You have so much natural born talent in everything you do, it seems.
I'm in awe of you that you can paint so well and only started 3-4 years
ago. Β
I kind of like the look of watercolor, but I've heard that the medium is
a bit harder to learn. I don't know...maybe it's the "messiness" of paints
that keeps me from trying. Β  All that clean-up afterwards.

I painted with watercolors in high school for projects and no one ever taught me how to paint, except my older brothers taught me to wet the whole paper with a light blue color and then wait for it to dry--building colors on top of it. It's not that difficult, but it is messy. I don't like painting by the "rules."

No need to create anything by "rules" when you can produce such lovely art
without them!! Β

When I first saw this painting (from my calendar that I had hanging in my room) and my dad told me to draw as an assignment, I was a little anxious because it looked so hard. Once I started painting, however, it was amazing. I love working on canvas, too.

I noticed that drawing on almost a dry surfaces, it's much easier to control acrylics. I know that a lot of artists use wet-on-wet, but since I don't have that much experience as they do, I work what I find is most comfortable. Thanks, by the way.

sheΒ΄s fantastic

HelenLight In reply to lilittu [2013-02-11 01:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Working with acrylics is kind of hard (as you already know probably) because since they dry up quickly, you have to learn to draw quickly. However, since I'm self-taught, I have my own ways of working around this paint because I can't always go wet-on-wet because I can't draw as quickly as other artists. Thank you, by the way. And Sandra Kuck was one of my favorite artists ever since I was 11 years old. I discovered her when we were doing an art project in school and we had to do paper-mache. There was a picture of one of her paintings in a magazine. I cut out the picture and kept it as a bookmark that I still have.

HelenLight In reply to leif-j [2013-02-10 22:07:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, leif. It was a tough painting because of the lace and the glow around the moon and stars. I know that some artists know the painting techniques very well, but I experiment and learn on my own.
