Description Ultra Fractal 5.04

*** Prints made with a 2048x2048 size render *** For a higher-sized or higher-resolution print, please contact me ***

Just because I can't sit still (and also because I needed a break from my current real life occupations), I kept fractaling some more and started the second lesson of the masking course. It focuses primarily on frames. Here's my first assignment!

Lovely, I like the texture and the subtle colours.

Nice one! Like the texturing...
And I like the way the fractal doesn't care too much about the boundaries set by the frame...
(need to learn more about texturing, do you have any tips, Alice?)
Cheers, Bernhard

I like fractals that go beyond the frame. I rarely ever make frames contain them.
As of texturing, I surely have some hints for you!

[link]

You can download my pack, for example, and you'll see how I make textures. Basically, for most of them, I use a Pixel formula and the SFBMII colouring. In Convolution and Absolute Convolution mode, it gives very nice results - have a look at my textures to see what it does.
Or, you can start from just about any gnarl formula and go with it.

The fundamental rule of texturing: use greyscale images, and play with merge modes and opacity. That's how they work best. I personally use overlay a lot for texture layers; at times even hard light or luminance, or soft light if I want a smoother effect.

I hope it's enough. Don't hesitate to ask for more

Thank you very much, Alice !!!
Time to play around and experiment...

And you did a great job! I love the frame look and how the fractal is bursting out of the frame! Also the almost monochromatic-ness is great! Nice job!

heavenriver In reply to hyperblade416 [2011-03-26 12:22:06 +0000 UTC]

It was initially thought of as monochrome, in fact! Green was added later. Thank you!

Well I do think the green is a nice touch! It really makes the whole thing pop. Grey on grey would have been a bit TOO monochromatic so the green was a nice idea.

I tried complete monochrome too, and went to your same conclusion. Glad you share this idea!
