Description Izu 4

36" x 24"

Scratchboard and Ink

This is Izu from the San Diego Safari Park. It's actually not even finished so I'm really shocked (but pleased) about the DD. Since this picture was taken he's gotten some whiskers .

Thanks for the DD and all the praise

Official finished version - hope the DD is still worthy!

He's really loud when he roars. He makes me think of my cat Milo, but much bigger and fluffier.

I've heard of scratchboard but what exactly do you do with it to create art...is it painted on or something?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Heatherzart In reply to Aspendragon [2011-12-19 05:20:52 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply. Scratchboard is a clay coated board that comes white or pre-inked in black. Then you scratch off the black (or whatever you painted on it) to reveal the white underneath, I use an xacto knife to scrape with so I get really thin lines. Then I use a really diluted ink wash to paint over the scratches to add the color. Ink works best because it doesn't damage the surface at all and you can still make clean scratches.
