I'm not that expert in martial arts, I had to quit after three years because of university (and an obsessive partner).
Anyway there's a difference between being a masochist and brushing off pain...
and there's also a difference between brushing off pain and brushing off injury.
I sprained my wrist last month while playing soccer, and for 6 hours after the incident I didn't really feel pain. But when it started to get red and swell, and my father said "That's it, I'm taking you to the hospital" I said "yes, please, hurry"... because even though I could endure the pain it didn't mean that it wasn't serious.
So even if you can handle pain, be careful with what you do and if you get hurt stop for a second and think about how much could it be serious. If you're 100% sure it's nothing, then go ahead and ignore it. If you're not, show it to someone, even just a friend that could help you wrap it up.
And lastly: if you thought "that tickles" then don't worry. Bone pain is the worst you can ever feel, you wouldn't have been able to even breath without thinking about the pain. XD

Haha, I was joking about the tickling part. Kinda like mocking my own reaction by exaggerating it. And I know, I know... there are differences. I agree with you. I don't gain pleasure from pain. When I said masochist I didn't mean it literally! XD I know I hadn't broken it-- in fact, I didn't expect it to drag on for so long. I thought I'd just have to lay down for a bit while the pain ebbed away and I'd be fine within a few minutes. After a while I was like, "Um.. okay.. maybe at most a day?" I was laughing at the time only because I couldn't believe I'd managed to injure myself in such a ridiculous manner. Besides, I didn't need to worry-- my mom was hovering over me immediately. And... well, she's a doctor, so we have a whole kitchen cabinet or two dedicated to an assortment of first aid kits, medicines, syringes, etc. (Well, we'd need more than that for a broken foot, but you get the point.) Obviously, if I thought it was really serious I wouldn't be laughing o.o' Still, as I look back on it now, I can't help but laugh at the fact that I had been laughing during the whole ordeal in the first place XD
Oh! Returning the the Kanda cosplay: I really like the pose for this particular picture, so I was wondering if you'd allow me to use it for reference? I really want to practice sketching different postures and such, but before I went ahead and posted up a drawing of it, I wanted to know if you'd be okay with it
And even if you aren't an expert-- it sounds like lots of fun (Aside from.. the... ehm... obsessive partner? O.o') I might attempt it some time... but that attempt would come a long time from now... because... well... you know what happened with the "ninja leaps" and my foot XD Though I highly doubt the real martial arts is anything like the movies/animes with the flying people lol *shakes head*

*pat, pat* It's all good XD I figured so. Honestly, I felt like a little kid being lectured by a parent, but eh *shrugs* It's the internet. And even if it wasn't, misunderstandings happen. ~mellow~ The only ways to upset me are either:
a)It's the morning-- you don't necessarily have to do anything
or
b) messing with my food... then I will bite you. And if you don't believe me, try stealing so much as a skittle from me! :evillaughter:
c)Umm... I don't tend to stand up for myself, but I'll suddenly go from being the quiet one to being the head of a rebellion if anyone messes with my friends >.> And I'm not talking like casual friends that have some minor problem. If they can work it out themselves, fine. But if they're getting picked on by a teacher to the point of tears, I don't care if said teacher is some fugly bald, cross-eyed, beady-eyed, bulging-eyed, hunched over, pale, hairy meanie that looks like Dracula, I WILL BE STANDING ON HIS DESK, STIRRING THE CLASS AGAINST HIM!!! D:< ...*ahem* 'scuse the rant there!
d) Eh... too lazy to list the rest of the injustices in this world.
Hm... sounds like you were really passionate about it. In all honesty, it would take a lot of discipline and determination for me to get anywhere with it-- I've never been one for athletics, then again.... *stares at [the majority of] athletes in her school* Ew. e_e I think that's why. (And also that most sports... just don't interest me :/ Except maybe kick-ball and basket-ball.) But I suppose my dislike of a few certain people shouldn't keep me from at least giving it a try It's not like there going to be there with me!
Thank you SOOOO much! I'm going to copy it as accurately I can at first, then maybe use the pose for an anime-style Kanda, or some other character. I'll be sure to notify you when they're complete, so you can see them if you'd like.
*finished essay-long reply and feels accomplished!... then looks over at the clock and realizes she's late for class* =_='

yeah, writing fast enough to not be late afterwards is an art mastered by few XD
do I detect some reference to actual happenings in point c? XΒ°D
well, you do need to learn how to discipline yourself when you do martial arts but most of all you need a good teacher... if you see one of those "you won't know pain! you won't know mercy! you'll follow my orders, rawr!" crazy military-like teachers, then you can be sure that's not the right way to do martial arts XD
anyway, I don't know how athletes in your school are like, but I pretty much ignored those in mine (PE teacher included, who was hell-bent on making me play soccer and always fumed when he saw me bringing my wooden scimitar in the gym) because they did their thing, I did mine, everyone was happy.
The advice I can give you is: find something you like, start doing it on regular basis, see if you keep liking. ^^
I'll be waiting to see your drawings

Thanks for the advice You're actually not the first that's given it to me... but my friend has much less gentler ways of expressing herself, apparently >.>' Ahh, but I still love her! That bitch.
I really did LOL at that part of you bringing a wooden scimitar into the gym! XD
And yeah, I know those crazy military teachers.. which is why I'm sure as hell not joining my friend's sister in her Taekwondo Classes ._.'
And yes, point C did have a lot of reference to actual happenings. It as 8th grade. There's another certain friend of mine, who I feel especially close to and protective of. NO, I'm not in love with her. (I'm tired of hearing that assumption -_-') And well... I went from being the quiet bookworm to being the leading figure of defiance/rebellion. I think I shocked my classmates a bit... Not even the school owner/director/principle could get me to step back in line! MWHAHAHAHAHA... glory days xD
One last story! Some kid stole said friend's pencil pouch in class, and they were all creating a ruckus (kid laughing with his friends, my friend whining, general chaos and screaming and stomping on the floor)... while I was trying to read... so abruptly I stood up, turned around, and threw my own pencil pouch like a boomerang... the kid was in the process of running towards the exit... I got him right in the face, and my friend got her pencil pouch back! XD The thing is, I only have good aim when I'm not looking/thinking about it! D:
P.S. I [sort of] made it in time to my class. The teacher was even more late than I was.

Haha, I was a rebel without a cause when I was little (I'm talking like 4 or 5 years old... the class didn't follow the teacher. The class followed me. I was uncontrollable), but after that I never really caused much trouble either. This was just a special occasion where I felt an injustice had been done to my friend. She'd been having a rough time at home (something I can relate to) and the teacher was all in her face, asking about her long face with mock concern. It really pissed me off. Moreover, she'd actually defended this specific teacher in the past (he got picked on a lot by the kids). I was cool with him up until that moment. His actions that day proved him to be inadequate. He's an adult.More importantly, a teacher. He has a duty to fulfill, and he was being irresponsible about it. I couldn't believe he'd take it out on an innocent student. He needed to get over his sorry ass and realize he's not the only victim in the world. Immature abusive adult with the spine of a maggot and a severe lack of dignity, that's what he was.
Wow, so much for me not judging others ._.' Let's see someone use those very words against me one day when I don't complete my responsibilities. Eh, we all have our angry rants! XD
Hmm... should probably start straying form that topic... it seems I've been raging about it for days. Makes me look like an angry person >.<
Blaaargh... Thank happy thoughts, think happy thoughts! D: ... Oh! I know! Yaoi! (Man-sex is like [oatmeal] cookies, it makes everything better.)
Ah, and have you read the new D.Gray-Man chapter? If came out.. yesterday, I think? Looks like Kanda had a bromance going on.

As I've learned from Google! Eh-heh, I like to say I like Video Games, but the truth is I've only barely played MMO's or panicked at how to use a controller when I'm over at a generous friend's house XD Games used to be banned in my house up to the point where I couldn't even play Sudoku :/
Yeah... more pleasant things like sleep. *grumbles* Stupid Lab report... stupid endless pile of index cards... stupid test, stupid quiz, stupid outline, stupid other outline, stupid math problems, stupid Spanish exercises, stupid other quiz, and stupid vocab words. Oh, and stupid research paper! My desk looks like Komui's =_='
((That list may sound like I left it all for the last minute... but I've been working on that pile since Wednesday night e_e It's just too much work! I swear these teachers get a high from seeing our overburdened, aggravated faces.... I have a feeling I may have told you that theory of teachers getting a high from assigning homework before... but... it's the one thing I complain about a lot, so bear with me xD))

I'm prepared +_+ (Was part of my AP European History Curriculum... and I actually ended up really enjoying the book. Didn't read it from cover to cover, but I still go through it every once in a while.)
History of Arts? Are you studying something with art? O: I'm slightly undecided.... so I'm curious: If that's what you're doing, how's it going for you?

SuicidalMarshmallow In reply to headraline [2010-09-14 00:22:23 +0000 UTC]
I'm a pretty hard worker! Just tired at the moment is all ): I had a pretty tough day at school today... I was ambushed. By... an army of quizzes and tests.
But I'm damn proud of the essay I just finished... teacher better appreciate my essay on photography... Or else! +_+
I feel very strongly about art and the philosophical and sentimental notions behind it. For me, art is the ultimate expression of emotions and the validation of truths. Simply put, it is beauty. Raw beauty, raw emotions, raw truths.
.... And raw sushi! (Damn it, can't I ever stay serious for once? XD)
Well, my only issue with art is.... the financial one ._. Money doesn't mean a lot to me, but most of the things I'm passionate about are expensive. Namely, art (I DO need to buy supplies), and horses. My house doesn't have to be big, I'm not into anything that's lavish, and hell, my mother is always telling me I won't get anywhere if I don't start "selling myself". Whatever that means... I hate bragging about myself or sweet-talking or ass-kissing ._. And it is true that I have felt happier at the houses of friends with a lower income than in my own home. I'm not even one for spending a lot! XD On the contrary, I tend to hoard up things and save them for later >.>' Honestly, I don't need the fancy sports car. BUT I DO NEED MY HORSES. As I started saying before, house doesn't need to be big... but I like a lot of open space. Land requires money and maintainance. And so do horses. Like... a lot of money. I've considered putting up some business on the side to help deal with the whole "starving artist" situation I've heard about, but... businesses are risky too >.<
((Haha, sucks for you! It's the return of my rambling responses! XD))

SuicidalMarshmallow In reply to headraline [2010-09-14 10:20:55 +0000 UTC]
XD I launched into a speech about economy 'cause I've heard that most artists don't really make much money. And that's the only thing that makes me hesitant about pursuing it... but... I think I will anyways ^_^
Now... I just need to figure out what to do inside of art. Just saying "artist" is a tad too broad.
π: 0 β©: 1
headraline In reply to SuicidalMarshmallow [2010-09-14 13:03:20 +0000 UTC]
The problem with that is that most people have a limited concept of what an "artist" is...
An artist is not only a guy that makes big expositions in galleries and sells masterpieces...
"artist" is also the guy working in a typhographic studio making adversting flyers, or book covers... he won't be very rich, but they'll pay him every month and more than enough... actually there are dozens of things that an "artist" could do and make good money, even without being "famous"...
An average graphic designer working in a design studio can make logos and other visual publicity for small and big companies, where do you think logos and illustrations come from?
And for one logo the price goes from a minimum of 600β¬ to a maximum of 1500, depending on how "important" the work and how expensive the realization.
So an designer with an independent studio sets the price, the clients pay. People working for them get paid accordingly.
So, in that aspect you have nothing to fear.

Yeah, I've heard about that stuff too... I'm more interested in thins like Animation (as opposed to advirtisement and all that stuff). I dunno, I still need to look at all of my options... but I'm running out of time! I don't have long before applications are due! *panics*

headraline In reply to SuicidalMarshmallow [2010-09-14 19:49:02 +0000 UTC]
graphic design includes animation...
I don't know about other places, but in Italy you first get a basic degree in whatever it is that you want to major in, and then you can take up a specialization... and with a couple exceptions (like 3d and stuff like that) the programs you have to use to make animation are the same ones you use for adversting, so even in that, you shouldn't encounter too much trouble...

SuicidalMarshmallow In reply to headraline [2010-09-14 21:36:09 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure about how the learning process goes about over here. (*Note to self: Research it.) Though it does make sense to get a degree and then specialize in something more specific, a lot of these schools are illogical e_e They get on my nerves to the point where I sometimes feel like I should reform the education system XD
I took up 3D Animation last year, but unfortunately only about one or two of my classmates were really interested in the class, so we never got much done :/ It was more like one of those "artsy classes" that people take up for the easy grade. Even though I didn't learn much, it still gave me a taste of what using the programs is like... and I now have a whole new level or respect for the people behind animated movies XD Such as Avatar, which I am in love with. I'd move to Pandora if it wasn't for the lack of air conditioning and internet connection XD
