Thank you. In forty years of serious bird watching I had never seen this. I have watched hummingbirds play in the sprinkler when I water the lawn, bath in the cups of leaves after a rain. I think the drought here is making it hard for the birds in general. We are getting birds that we do not usually see for a few more weeks coming in.

Aww, this is so sweet! I love hummingbirds, with their long beaks and extremely fast fluttering wings!

Thank you. This little bird, or one very like it, has been coming back a couple times every day.
Thank you for the favorites.

I think it's pretty good considering that hummingbirds are very fast.

Thank you, and thanks for the favorite. I have never seen a hummingbird do this. I have seen them bathe In tree leaves after a rain and play in the sprinkler when I water the lawn. Never at the bird bath.

Wow... ! So it is an unlikely behaviour... I am glad that you commented it, because I never would know (we have no hummingbirds around 'ere, the closest thing that resembles them is "hummingbird hawk moth" that people often reports as actual hummingbirds. Its Hungarian name has nothing to do with hummingbirds, but their behaviour is really similar for the untrained eye.)

I saw a photo of a "hummingbird moth" of one of the European varieties. We have a moth that has similar behavior. They are sphinx moths.
