I'm glad you asked, because here's a little known secret about mermaids. Their tails can change color. It's a bit circumstantial, but I'll share the details.

It's unlikely that the full moon will hypnotize, trigger a transformation, or have any of those types of superstitious reactions on a mermaid. Instead, exposure to moonlight, especially when the moon is full, is capable of drawing out and exacerbating hormones and emotions in a way that can sometimes manifest itself physically.
