I really wanted Tonks to be a lesbian. I wanted this so, so, so badly. So badly I almost cried when I found out she ended up with Remus.
Remus/Tonks is just so... ehh.
I really approve of Neville/Luna though. It's so, SO fucking cute.
Also, I want Luna to end up being Headmaster of Hogwarts when she grows up. I think this needs to happen.

xD gah i cant stand it. i ADORE remus and i actually liked tonks a lot, but they did not work as a couple. honestly i think they only got together so they could have teddy, as teddy was necessary to parallel harry's orphanage, and show the beginning of a new era, etc. it just seemed SO forced and sudden. bleh.

I totally agree with you! I was find with Remus losing himself over the fact that Sirius had died because it showed how much he was affected by losing his only friend.. then suddenly Tonks turns up preggy even though Remus was doing secret jobs around the werewolves?!? It just doesn't make any sense!

i kind of love that remus was so lost without sirius (not in a sadistic way, as in a "this pairing is so tragic and wonderful and REAL" way) and i think it just adds so much to his character. my headcanon is that teddy was conceived during remus' intense grieving phase, when he was desperate for some sort of comfort, and not really thinking of the consequences.

I don't know. My cousin and I both have the idea that Tonks got preggers by someone else but they either died or wouldn't accept the child and Remus being the type of person he is decided on a whim to marry Tonks and claim the child as his only to second guess himself (and his condition) later on

Also, I agree with your pairings! James/Lily = my favorite strictly canon pairing, Remus/Tonks = my way least favorite "canon" pairing. Remus/Sirius = favorite pairing that should have been in the books IM JUST SAYIN, and Snarry is probably my least favorite of major pairings I've heard about, although I also don't like Harry/Draco or... well, really, Harry/anyone XD Actually I kind of wished Harry/Luna happened, and I don't mind Harry/Ginny.
Oh wait I just realized a contender for James/Lily (but not one that wins) would be Ron/Hermione because they're cute, especially in the movies.

lol Harry/angst! That may actually be my ship too XD I also agree with harry/ginny-- I didn't mind her; I mean, it was implied since the start that she liked him, but him liking her was kind of sudden and then they had a sort of weird relationship.
I saw you mention elsewhere why you hate Remus/Tonks and it's EXACTLY the same reasons for me. I actually completely hate Remus/Tonks so much precisely because Remus is my favorite male character, and Tonks was actually my favorite female. I am not against het pairings at all (as evidenced by how much I love James/Lily) but there was NOTHING that worked with Remus/Tonks. It actually destroyed both characters in one fell swoop, particularly Tonks. She turned into the worst female character ever. And on top of that, the ONLY reason these two characters who never should have been together were forced together was so that they could have Teddy who could then become an orphan who could then work as some stupid ass parallel for that short scene in the epilogue.
I was just so incredibly pissed off about that.
Plus, Remus's character seems to even be struggling against the pairing the whole last two books. It's like he's trying to get away from Tonks but can't, and she's turning into some crazy annoying fangirl stalker, and then she forces herself on him, and then he feels obligated to stay because of commitment/being a moral person-- and yeah he was probably happy when Teddy was born but that seems to be the case with most parents. I just don't believe Remus EVER loved Tonks, and Tonks' version of love seems to be a sudden, forced and unrequited obsession that is based on fear and loss from Sirius.
So it basically felt like with Sirius gone, the two people who should have been able to rely on each other most were totally fucked up and destroyed just so JKR could push her mommy values on the story.
I get really angry about it because I really hate it when male/female pairings are forced, especially solely for reproductive reasons, since I'm a lesbian and it just feels incredibly insulting to me that a perfectly awesome female character has to be destroyed so she can fit the mold of Mommy and Martyr. Plus if she HAD to have a kid with someone, why not one of the Weasleys? Wasn't Bill or whoever still single? Honestly speaking though I think Tonks would have been way cooler as a lesbian. She just felt like the sort of person that would be. So since Remus seems like he could have been gay or bi to me, and Tonks seems like she should have been a lesbian or bi, and they're really the only main characters I felt that way about, it even more makes me feel like the only gay-friendly characters were forced into an unnatural heterosexual pairing for the author's gratification of a totally retarded theme. And I know she later said Dumbledore is gay which is fine, whatever, but that makes it even worse then-- because if Dumbledore, who didn't seem gay, gets to be gay, why the hell did she have to force that pairing onto R/T? And even if they WERE both straight, at least let them have a lover who's their own freaking generation for gods sake. I have nothing against age gaps but in this case, since nothing about their relationship worked whatsoever, the age gap on top of it just made it creepy to me. It made Tonks seem even more immature and Remus even more resigned.
GRAH. Ok sorry XD I didn't mean to go on such a rant but that pairing pisses me off so much XD
James/Lily -- yeah I love them so much. They seem like a super romantic version of true love but what I really like about it is James had to work his ass off to get her. It wasn't some super random love at first sight crap for both of them. He had to convince her, so it makes a great love story of leading up to them getting together, and makes it feel like when they do get together their love is even stronger.

tonks' character just got so compromised, and she turned into this terrible needy bitch when i lOVED her before. ghajlkgkjh and remus is too old for her- hes wonderful, but hes like the same age as her parents and its weird. i would have been totally down with tonks either being gay or getting together with like charlie weasley. honestly just anyone but remus. and THEY NEEDED EACH OTHER AS FRIENDS since sirius died, but then NOOOO suddenly they had to be like forced together. blehjkgehfaj. theres actually a really excellent fic that deals with the whole remus/tonks, remus/sirius relationship- here is a link, which you do not have to read, but i would love to squee/rant with you if you did
james/lily- you put it exactly how i feel. i love that he had to work for her, and that when she came around, she had no regrets at all and just loved him and harry so strongly. gah. harry potter just gives me so many feelings xD

Thanks for the link! I read the fic... that was interesting to read. I like how it jumped all over the place. It did a good job of highlighting different places in his life. In my mind, Tonks was the one who basically forced herself on him to start and he kind of just accepted it instead of being the one to reach out a little like is shown in the fic, but for the most part it's not far from how I imagine things went.
Charlie! Yes, it was CHARLIE who was still single. Man, just think how cute they could have been as a pairing...
But I agree with you-- they needed each other AS FRIENDS. Mourning over a mutual loss does not need to result in some sort of romantic relationship. It sucks that it did. And even if JK was DETERMINED to have those two have a kid, I wish it had instead been that they'd had one moment of weakness when they were both completely trashed in mourning Sirius' death-- and that one night stand that they both kind of regretted turned into Tonks being pregnant, and Tonks decided to keep the kid and then they could have gone on being friends. Even if it was necessary for them to marry, it could have been something reluctant on both their parts but they just did it to fulfill some sort of obligation to their unborn kid.
Plus, another thing that pisses me off about how Tonks changed is, as you said, she turned into a totally needy bitch even though I adored her before all this bullshit-- and she kept refusing to take her safety into account at all even when she was pregnant, which didn't make her look brave it just made her even more unreasonable. First she forces her way into Remus' life, gets herself knocked up, forces him into being with her, forces her way into a marriage, and THEN she decides to be fearless? Tonks was always a bit bumbling before but she wasn't an idiot. She knew how to be cautious when the time needed it, so it's even more annoying that when she had a legitimate reason TO be cautious, she also forced her way into all the Orders proceedings and fights. And then they both decide to fight in the big fight at the end? How freaking dumb is that? I know they were trying to save the new world and all that but the whole thing annoyed the crap out of me because on top of everything else, their deaths didn't even happen on screen. We found out almost as a side comment mixed in the middle of a paragraph. And having their pinkies almost touching or whatever crap allegedly happened when their corpses were laid out did nothing to make it better.
It's not like I hate Teddy or anything but seriously, as a character he is completely and unequivocally NOT WORTH IT to have utterly destroyed two strong characters just so he could exist. Frankly speaking, no one is. At least James and Lily had meaning to their death, and when they both fought it was because they were at home caught unaware. I bet you if the same circumstances had met Lily, she wouldn't have been running around on Order business pregnant, and she wouldn't have been so unreasonable and forceful on the man she loved (allegedly, for Tonks, since every one of her actions and comments tells me she never loved Remus at all), and James and Lily would not have both gone running right into a fight like that or if they had, they would have found a way for at least one of them to live through it.
I mean, I know accidents happen, I know Remus and Tonks didn't intend to die there-- but criminy. Well honestly, even if Tonks and Remus had never gotten together at all I imagine he was destined to die there because he'd basically lived a really shitty life that never was the same after the MWPP era. Although I always liked the fics where he did live and later found a way to pull Sirius out of the veil. But I really wouldn't have been as annoyed by his death if he'd died on his own because, for him, I think it would have been really cruel to have to keep living past the deaths of so many loved ones. But if Tonks hadn't gotten randomly involved with Remus, I feel like she probably would have made it through that fight because she actually was a really good Auror, and on her own she was always smart enough to know how to fight. And she could have had a long life ahead of her afterward. With Charlie XD Or a girl, I don't know...
Instead, both their futures were robbed just to make a point that was overdone and lame in the first place. BAH. I did like that Remus appeared alone as a ghost though. Thank god Tonks didn't show up along with him. I like to imagine that now that they're all dead, they're being reborn in another timeline that goes the way it should have all along XD

again you have written this wonderful essay that i cant even compare with and probably sound ridiculous trying to. im glad you liked the fic! i really love that author, and its one of the best handling of remus/tonks ive seen in fic- i like how she had it down as a moment of weakness for remus and then he was just sort of stuck with the consequences, although it isnt fair for tonks, because she is still the canon version- whiny and irresponsible about her/teddys safety.
this sounds so weird but i love imagining what happens when they all died- i like to think that the marauders+lily (peter before he was evil... unless he always was, and i dont really think so because i dont think james/sirius/remus would have been best friends with someone EVIL- i ranted about what i think happened somewhere else, ill try to find it) get to relive their glory days in hogwarts, because that was undoubtedly when they were all happiest. the moment where they showed up with the resurrection stone without fail always turns me into a bawling mess. its just- the full circle that the marauders have come, and theyre all there to support harry, but also each other. GAH MY HEART. so glad tonks was not part of it, as she was not part of them. i think it really symbolized that remus' heart belonged to his friends (cough and sirius) rather than her.

yesss thank you for the watch (watching you back) <3 remus fans like us must stick together! my thing on peter- i think he was always like the awkward, odd one out. like the friend who effectively kills the conversation when they join in, or like tries to joke and it doesnt really work. and he just got kind of left out. like the marauders didnt mean to, but when james got with lily and remus and sirius got closer (cough got together cough) peter was just the odd one out, and eventually it just got to him, and voldemort played off of his weakness of not fitting in, and offered him this new, better group of friends- with a catch. at least thats how i see it- because they wouldnt have been friends with him if he was ALWAYS evil. i think he just had potential to either be a gryffindor hero, or this horrible person, and the badness won over. have you read the shoebox project? if not read it NOW. it deals with the whole peter thing really well, besides being just amazing in general
