Description Ok, for starters. The tragic love story of the Highwayman is honestly one of my favorite tales of all time. Seriously, it tops Romeo and Juliet.

This is a submission for the Heroine Fan-Art Creator Contest: [link]

Which can be found on the AzaleasDolls-lovers page : [link]

"Long ago, during the rule of the ruthless King George. There were two lovers, destined for one another. But there love, it appeared, could never be, for he was an outlaw, and she was the daughter of a respectable inn keeper. Not only was that but the young lady promised to another, but the man she was betrothed to was the right hand man of the King himself. Oh, a greasy slimy man he was. Every night, the Bess would weep and pine for her lover.
But, her heart would lift when the moon would rise into the sky, because she would hear the hooves of her lover’s steed. As he rode to her under every full moon, under the ghostly galleon, they would talk endlessly. Hanging out the window she held the Highwayman’s hand. “Come away with me my love.”
She didn’t need telling twice. The young woman couldn’t say no. So they made plans to run away together under the next full moon. Unbeknownst to them, her betrothed had heard their exchange. Rote with anger and jealousy, the fiancé reported to King George imploring him to send his men to capture the Highwayman when he came for Bess.
The men were dispatched to the inn, where they took Bess outside and waited for her lover to come. However, a young boy who was friends with the Highwayman had seen the treachery and warned Bess’s lover. So when he rode for her, he was ready.
Without any hesitation, the Highwayman risked be killed or captured. He rode through like the wind and grabbed Bess, taking her onto his horse. And they rode away to the west. Leaving Bess’s fiancé shrieking in anger. "

Ah, the Highwaymen. Alfred Noyes did, in my opinion, top Romeo and Juliet with that piece. And Loreena McKennitt made it a masterpiece all over again. ^^ Great story, as well.

Thank you, it's one of my favorite stories. I became re-obsessed with it when I heard the musical version of the poem by Loreena McKennitt
