The Song!Swap AU is basically a Underswap Universe where monsters heavily rely on music to activate their magic.It's our take on the concept but definitely not original. That credit goes to (doodlenut on Tumblr who created SongFell)

Bubbly and all-around optimistic, he just wants to join her Majesties Royal Conductors.
His musical preference is Pop! But he's open to all types of music and trains everyday.
[Papyrus / Riff ]
The older brother. Never speaks and communicates by snapping his fingers with morse code.
Former Royal Conductor. Injury to his throat being the reason for retirement??
Not being able to sing gives him magic difficulties. But he functions fine all the same.

Oh this is a really interesting concept!! The idea of Riff using Morse code by snapping is interesting. Iβm usually not too interested in Underswap but again this is quite an interesting take :>

We figured Morse Code probably works better for him then using Hand Signs because it creates sound and rhythm. In SongSwap a monsters magic is really tied to their ability to use and create music. Riff's muteness does hinder his health because of that. But, he finds other ways to live normally. But depending on the loud genre of the music playing around him? This could also mean he gets drown out and unheard.

I was going to ask about sign language but snapping does make sense for this AU. How would differentiate between a pause thatβs part of the letter and a pause to indicate he was starting another letter though? Iβm sure that could be confusing sometimes.

I'm sure it gets very confusing for other monsters! Most people in Snowdin know enough to at least understand when he's trying to communicate. But, there are a lot of misunderstandings when he starts to snap quickly and use two hands. The only people who seem to get him without trouble are "The other Conductors" like Undyne. Or his brother, Lyric. Who talks to him like they are both verbalizing. I'm sure a lot of the reticence finds it amusing to watch.
