In the depths of the Amazon Rainforest there are legends of a particularly infamous tribe called the Kothoga. Also known as the "shadow people" they were feared as sorcerers who practiced human sacrifice and controlled vicious monsters. Their central deity was called "Mbwun" or he who walks on all fours. In 1987 an expedition from the New York Museum of Natural History was led by Julian Whitney, an anthropologist who wanted to find this lost tribe. He determined that the tribe was located on top an tepu though he was denied permission by the Brazilian government to climb it. The expedition reached the base of the tepu where they found a hut containing artifacts along with a statue of the Mbwun at the center, though more disturbingly the huts walls were lined with human skulls with large holes in the cranium. The area around the hut had many species of plants that were unknown to science, in particular was a strange water lily that seemed to be important to the Kothoga. The artifacts along with a large amount of the lily plant were stored in crates. Shortly after this discovery a division occurred among the party with Whitney deciding to illegally climb the tepu and the other group led by a man named Maxwell decided to return to civilization. Unfortunately Maxwell's group died in a plane crash and Whitney was never heard from again.

The crates eventually made their way to the museum, and soon after rumors of a "Museum Beast" have circulated though it was expectedly dismissed as hearsay. That was the case until 1995 when a series of grisly murders took place within the museum with the victims decapitated and a part of the brain eaten. These events transpired shortly before a major galla for a special exhibit that the museum's higher ups were unwilling to cancel. Inevitably chaos ensues on opening night when the beast attacked and an accident causes the museum to shut itself down, trapping a number of people inside. Though the creature killed several more people, through the efforts of a police officer, a doctor and an FBI agent were able to to put a stop to the creature by shooting in its eye seemingly killing it. After the incident the beast's body was taken away.

Unbeknownst to those involved a two person team of M.I.P agents were also looking into the murders. They were undercover and planted recording devices at various areas of the museum to gather intel. They even attended the gala though they were ill prepared for the chaos of that night. The were lucky enough to survive the night. It was through them that the M.I.P were able to get a hold of the creature's body. Though they were in for a surprise were the body started to breathe.

The creature was taken to a warehouse outside the city limits. The creature weighed about 250 to 270 kilograms, a body shape reminiscent of a big cat, with black shaggy hair along with reptile like scales, limbs that end in long black talons, and an skull similar to a primate. When it was caged, it became increasingly erratic, dilated pupil, and rising body temperature, and other symptoms that are consistent with an addict going through withdraw. The hidden recording devices showed that the creature needed certain hormones to survive, hormones that can only be found in the lily plants and the hypothalamus. The recordings also reveal that the creature was surviving for years living off tiny amounts of the plants but, when the crates were put in storage and out of reach the creature had no choice but to hunt human beings. Because the hypothalamus only contained a tiny fraction of the the hormones compared to the plants only increased the creature's desperation. The agents were able to collect samples of the plant when it was taken out of storage. When a thread was fed to the beast its symptoms subside and was in a manageable state at least for a time.

Before it could be transported, some things had to be addressed. Data recovered from the recordings, museum computers, and obtained police files have painted a terrifying picture. The creature is a result of a very unique virus that propagates within the lily plants. When ingested the virus inserting its DNA into the host cells in order to propagate, however unlike other viruses this one has coding for other animals particularly reptilian. To put it simply the virus has the ability of trasforming the host subject into a deadly beast. Most disturbing was that the creature was originally a human being. After these revelations and creature's wounds healed, it and the lilies were transported to a high security containment facility meant for the research of deadly pathogens. This is one of the most secure facilities controlled by the M.I.P with extremely strict containment protocols.

The Mbwun was placed in a habitat deep in the the facility. Over the course of the first year the creature was exhibiting behaviors that are consistent with depression, seldomly eating, few daily activities, even long periods of mournful whimpering to name a few. Whenever it sees its own reflection, it would violently lash out, clearly disgusted by its appearance. By now its clear to the researchers that the Mbwun is becoming less of the savage animal it was found as. Regular doses of the lilies and more comfortable environment allowed more of the original man to manifest. However this allowed the weight of it's deeds to fully sink in thus leading towards it's near suicidal state. The psychological trauma its was experiencing required professional help so a psychologist was brought in. Through these sessions the creature actually learned to communicate through rough charades. With a line of communication established not only can important data be obtained but also gradually improved the creature's state of mind. It told about its previous life, the context to its transformation, life as a beast, and the murders it committed; a mentally painful process but, necessary in order for it to come to terms with itself.

In the meantime the M.I.P has continued to be vigilant, cause if a natural virus can produce something this horrific in one area of the world whose to say it won't happen in another.
