Nope they cannot. Its all with genetics. If you ever do get a male calico it is also part female. So the chromosomes would be XXY instead of XY. Female is XX and normal male is XY.

have you heard of hermaphrodite? It's both male and female genders. The male calico has testis and ovaries. but "predominately" male. To be a calico the gender chromosomes must be XX. Males are XY, but male calicos are actually XXY. They carry and extra sex chromosome.
