Made some changes!So you guys I am in a pickle and need some advice.
So I knew I wanted this pose, I wanted a ariel perspective of Opal swimming up toward the surface. Unfortunately, I didn't know exactly how to convey the image. *~* So I used a page from Mermaid Melody to reference the drawing. But after I came up with this I am now super paranoid about it being way to close to the manga page that it would go against copy rights you know? Also I dont want people accusing me of tracing <.<; So Idk how to proceed with the drawing...I want to continue with it and possibly use it as the cover for Into the Deep...but again it looks a lot like the manga page as far as drawing wise, I changed the rotation,drew it more like my style and scewed a few things but not enough to make it an original picture.
What is you opinion? how can I make it better? Or less like the reference to make it more like an original image? Thanks guys!

It depends on how much of the image reference you used ; v ; I know that the "No Game No Life" artist was just accused of tracing and I know that some people aren't taking it very well. If you feel like it's too close to the original then I would probably change it a bit. Also, do you think you could post the reference image you used so I can compare to how similar they are?

it is REALLY similar TT_TT I can post it in my stash so you can see. I may change her hand positions then. I might be able to change the perspective and make it look completely different that way it wont look so heavily referenced...Because I know references are to help people but it sucks when you have a image of what you want in your head and you find another image that is identical to it your just like...Darn ;//;

It's not much similar than you think it is, but you can tell that it was referenced. First, the hand positions are actually pretty different, I don't think you should change that. I like the idea of her reaching out to the viewer, and I really think it fits her character. Although, one I think you should change is the way her lower body is curved. It is REALLY close to how Luchia's body is curved too. You can try to curve her body downwards, so it looks more like she's swimming upward rather than from the side.
I really hope that helps a bit ; v ; And yes, like the other comments said below me, some visual effects would be a nice touch. Bubbles and shimmers might be nice, and maybe some fish or sea animals could be a good too!

I can't wait to play with some affects in Manga Studio *v* I will probably draw some fish. I am not sure how I am going to create the background though because that has to be in perspective and I suck at background and perspective! >~<;

Oh wow! Thank you so much for taking my advice! I really hope it helps you though! I really wouldn't want an amazing artist like you to be accused of tracing even if you weren't trying to! If you still need my help deciding on things, I would love to help you! I can't wait to see the next WIP! As for backgrounds, it doesn't have to be anything spectacular. But for the perspective, are you making her reach towards the surface of the water? If so, you can have the light source in the upper left hand corner and have light blue descending to dark blue maybe? I hope that helps!!

Uwaahh! That looks a whole better! The re-curving of the body really helped! I can also see the background is slowing making its way too! And I love the bubbles!

This is really nice! You should add bubbles, cos at the moment it doesn't look water like;D And the hands wouldn't be bent like that if she was swimming, unless you want to keep it like that, it's fine.

I know it...It is heavily referenced to the manga page I used so the original image is funny looking too <.<' LOL! XD I want to use some of the brushes I discovered to help with the water/buble affect I think it will look very nice!!

have her fingers curled in a bit as though she is reaching out to grab something like a can or something. that would be good, but it's really beautiful!

I kind of did that on purpose ^^ I didn't want huge eyes, I wanted her eyes kind of squinty because of her smiling. Does that makes sense? Does it not look good though?? What do you think would make it look better?? ^_^ <3
