Description edit: 3/11 - made arms smaller. tried fixing nose

3/10 : first time at a REALISTIC pic and first time at self-portrait..also.. i got lazy on shirt xD

should i leave line down nose? cause without it, it looks weird, with it looks weird. how can i fix? but yea this is for hw .. its supposed to be realistic [and tell me if spaghetti arms (which professor doesnt want) or not and whether or not it looks like me]. if its not, please tell me how i can fix.

i LOVE the face [tho idk if i like line in middle of nose] bodys meh.. hairs OK i mean i blame me for not having another layer [like where bangs r] but i tried makin it look curly..]

here's comparisons
full view [link]
close-up [link]

took: like 2-3 hours?
[also i was gonna hav be my model but she wanted to do hw before comin over so we just did ourselves in a mirror]

tell me how i did [and if realistic or semi-realistic]:

but yea.. not sure if i should add more.. like freckles

[my professor is evil xD having us draw realistic without really helping us]

You made some good changes! If you want to improve it more, here are some tips:

1. A person's nose doesn't have hard lines, so it is best to show the edges with soft shading If you look in the mirror, your nose kinda melts into your face, versus sticking out like a corner in a wall or something.

2. Good work with the eyes! However, they're a bit big and two close together. The rule of thumb is the space between eyes should be the space of another eye. (There's all kinds of handy measurements you can do to get the face porportions right- all using just the width of the eye!)

3. I would suggest you draw with the grid method (if your professor will allow) the first couple of times you draw faces. Because humans are made to recognize different faces (like how you can tell two siblings apart), your eyes pick up the tiniest measurements. This makes them so hard to draw! Using a grid until you get comfortable with all the measurements really helps position everything correctly.
Here are my first ever portraits (done many years ago XD) but we had to draw the same picture twice- the first time freehand and the second using the grid method. You can see the difference: (without grid [link] ) (with grid [link] )

But I think this is a really good attempt! I can't wait to see how you improve as you continue in your class

OH HEY THERE~ [new person (i mean u nvr commented before not idk who u are xD)]

i dont wanan shade xD ..so ..do i shorten the lines? or just draw lightly?

yea i figured that out and i cant fix them.. so itll have to stay like that.. but thanks for the tip~

i dont think he would allow it :/ like its suppoed to be a 15 min pic.. so.. u cant waste time griding

dude thats awesome!!

idk what else we're doing .. like we went from line to value to drawing a pic from a ref of a slide that was unfocused and he slowly focused it [so we wouldnt focus on .. how it should look but more of how it looks]

thanks >//<

XD I commented on the first one! That counts :c

Personally, I would... when you look in the mirror notice where the shadows are- the bottom of the nose, and then at the top (near your eyes, notice how your nose "bone" curves and turns into your brow) draw those lines. Then erase the lines that run down the middle of your face. (Your nose doesn't cast a shadow there, so it is not "separate" from your face enough for a line.)

Ok, yeah, it is time consuming XD It will help if you practice with it, though

Yeah, that's a good thing to learn to do. My teacher always told us to squint at whatever we're drawing... (It also helps if you're drawing from a picture, to turn it upside down and draw it that way. When people see (for example) a flower, they draw what they /think/ a flower should look like, instead of looking at the shapes and curves of the actual subject.)

Anyway, good luck ^_^

Didn't... you post it earlier, and it looked orange because of the lighting? I'm confused @.@

Uhhhm, (I am so bad at explaining without pictures! Sorry DX ) I'm trying to say not to draw the whole nose. You want to erase part of the line in the middle. Like just a little bit under the glasses. /flails about

Not hard at all D: Just try it!
A tad xD; It's mostly just my lines being sketchy. Just extend the nose outward, so it curves above the eye

I worded that funny x.x I mean... you captured all the different sections of hair. Many people just draw it straight down, but you can see where it curves and stuff XD;

I think if you slightly change the eyes, and the eye brows it would look better. and on the nose, that line in the middle is kind of awkward (no offense). I would erase it and give two slight lines on the side of the nose to make it look more like a nose. (after you erased the middle line it wouldn't make it look like a regular nose) but I can't even draw THIS good with people! xD

okay, that link I sent you was a reference. the eyes are a little too oval maybe narrow the eyes and give it more form. and the eye brows I would draw in the outside hairs but not make them long, just tiny little lines [link]

okay.
