Description Inside the box.

When a stereo goes bad, and it's beyond my ability to fix, I take it to Art to troubleshoot and repair.  This model, a Pioneer SX-950, was made from 1977 to 1979, and produced an astouding 85 watts RMS per side, at 8 ohms.  As it only takes 15 watts to be really loud, this model had nearly six times more power than needed.  Back then we liked to feel the music, not just hear it.

Turns out the problem was in the power supply, and once determined what was causing the problem, it became a simple solution to fix.  Collectors spend upwards to $1000.00 for these vintage models.  Just shipping it can cost $100.00, as they weigh over 42 pounds.

Once restored, we play these exceptional stereos in the gallery, that is until someone wants it more than I do, and then I find another.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

This is a skill that is dying out.

When modern items stop working they trash them!

At first glance,  I thought "hang on a minute, is that Slavoj Zizek at his day job?" Heh. Great photo, thougj. Really invites you in and makes you feel like you're in the workshop, glancing over his shoulder.

hadn't heard of him before, and now that I have, this would be a good day job for when the money stops coming in.

Wow, looks like my old stereo.  I never would have attempted to fix it though.  Now that I see the inner guts I'm glad I didn't.  He is an artist in his own rights.

Thanks for sharing your photo with us @ . Have a great day.

Pioneer really built 'em! I got three different Laserdisc players from them which were all close to 30 years old when I bought them and they all performed perfectly.

It has been my experience, that most of the audio companies let down their standards around 1984, while Pioneer started their demise in 1982.  This receiver was built while still in their great period.

That kinda makes sense. When I was younger I used to
get used electronics like that from thrift stores and take
them apart. The innards got considerably less sturdy as
time went on.
