I love eye candy to death, but she looks bad as hell here and I dig it.

Great sketch, but she is wearing entirely too much clothes.

I hated the movie, instead (sorry, but I've grown up with the books, and the film simply didn't give me back my happy moments xΒ°D), but I love your drawing. This is a Princess of Mars, with a strong body and a strong face and a warrior act... you could imagine easily her on the verge of disemboweling someone. *_* Nice!

The original Princess of Mars (the book, I mean) featured half-naked people... well, mostly naked people. "Mostly naked" as in dressed just in a bit of jewelry and not much more. xΒ°D
But the books were also a mixture of gore, harsh battles and lot, lot, lot of mysoginistic, superomistic crap which were perfectly themed with the author's interests, and the Disney version just didn't give it back to the reader, I suppose. I think I was just hoping for a newly done, more personal Dejah's version... less chauvinist, maybe. They took away the exaggerated, overstated parts of the books, instead, without exchanging them for more time-apt ones. Your drawing gives to me a much stronger, harsh, determined Dejah, in fact.

I haven't read the books either, but I had seen enough comic-art depicting her that way (prior to the movie) that I knew that was how she was described.
I colored another Dejah Thoris image [link] and one of the folks that commented on it shared the following quote from the book that describes Dejah Thoris when she is first introduced:
" And the sight which met my eyes was that of a slender, girlish figure, similar in every detail to the earthly women of my past life... Her face was oval and beautiful in the extreme, her every feature was finely chiseled and exquisite, her eyes large and lustrous and her head surmounted by a mass of coal black, waving hair, caught loosely into a strange yet becoming coiffure. Her skin was of a light reddish copper color, against which the crimson glow of her cheeks and the ruby of her beautifully molded lips shone with a strangely enhancing effect.
She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure. "
Hope you enjoyed that little quote from the book.

Cant remember if I commented on this or not already, but I love it. I also liked the new movie, and while I dont mind the nude versions at all, this is so much more intriguing! Great piece.

I'm looking at either getting a Moon Knight piece done or a piece featuring the Huntress. I'm also up for Dr. Doom or Judge Dredd.
Interested in trying your hand at any of those? Pick the one that piques your interest the most.

lol damn. well that's fantastic freedom! lol Did you want a background and such? or kinda like a character profile pic like the Dejah Thoris?

seggleston In reply to Harpokrates [2012-11-05 18:07:09 +0000 UTC]
I'm always open to anything. Freedom should be given to the artist, in my opinion.
If you've got the time for it, a background would be great. But I won't complain about a character profile, either.
Just drop me a note with your price and know that I'm in no hurry. Take your time, man. Take your time.

B) I liked the movie, too⦠one thing I missed most from the books was the 'happy warrior' aspect of John Carter. They decided to insert a tragedy, apparently, to humanize him or something. Meh.

that last sentence I made there sucked...what I meant to say is, all the knowledge I have comes from the movie.
