Beautiful! This actually reminds me of this dream I had about a year ago that looked a lot like this, where I saw a whale in a huge cylindrical tank looking at me through the glass.

There have been a handful of baleen whales in captivity, though I've never heard of a blue whale. No baleen whale has been kept for long. Some were released, others died. Most were rescue calves, though there have been a few attempts to capture and keep them for display.

I had no idea, and it makes sense they haven't been kept for long. The reason I asked was just that the world can be very unpredictable.
I think the only way this image could be possible is if they made a viewing area like an aquarium, but completely submerged... Actually, I feel like I've heard of something like that being built. A train thing, I think?

Heh, I'm a bit obsessed with zoos and aquariums, and I'm obsessed with cetaceans (ironically I'm not a huge fan of cetacean captivity, but lets not get into that, ha ha) so I know a fair bit, and I especially get interested in weird cases like baleen whales. I know the image is supposed to be a blue whale in an aquarium, but when I see it I just imagine it as an underwater dome in the open ocean where people view whales cause my mind can't imagine a tank big enough for a blue whale.
There are a couple of buildings like that, that I know of. One is a hotel and one is a restaurant. The technology is still pretty expensive. I really hope one day, this kind of thing becomes more affordable and then we could build like, an underwater tunnel and viewing area through a small part of a protected marine reserve. View all sorts of sea life, including big whales.

I think this piece is beautiful, but, in some ways, it also makes me sad. The blue whale is a creature so large that we've never been able to hold one in captivity. The idea of a blue whale swimming around in circles all day in an enclosure that's way too small for it to live comfortably depresses me.

indeed! they are lonely because they are the biggest TTwTT and yeah, I think they are hardly to settled in one place. I've read the deviantart articles about whale this morning and saw the graph that some of them are make their ways to the southern, but somehow... they didn't make it. Yeah, it's kind of sad...
