Gru for Day 1 of 's 30 Day Challenge posted in the Despicable Me Forum . I'm kinda scared to ink this right now so I'm posting it just in case I screw up and cry in a corner. I just used a F pencil.Gru (c) Illumination Entertainment Studios.

Alright, I'm going to be brutally honest with you: this picture isn't that great. Let's start with the face. Shading could be much, much better. The eyebrows are way to bushy and the color not quite dark enough. If they were smaller and darker, they would be quiet good. The eyes are eh. How they're sunken into the skin is good. The way his eyes are is wrong. His eyes never look like that. The mouth is too spread out. It needs to be smaller. Work on the shading too.
Now time for the body. The scarf shouldn't have white stripes. The scarf is black and gray. His body shape is all wrong. The arms are to straight. Though, you did do pretty well on the main part of the body. The jacket just doesn't seem right. There do not seem to be any pockets on the jacket, as I refer back to a picture of Grue. Not lighter spots either. The zipper is pretty good. The legs need to be darker. It took me 5 minutes just to realize they were there.
I can't believe I have to critique the moon. In most pictures, I'd just leave it at the above paragraph, but the moon seems kind of wrong too. The shading is all wrong. And craters aren't just circles thrown in there for shits and giggles - sorry about my rudeness right here, just being brutally honest.
That seems to be everything. Now, I'd appreciate a nice answer back, because it took me forever to write all that. I was using a picture reference so I could critique honestly, and it wasn't just from memory. Thank you for your time in reading all of this.

I'm sorry you don't like my Gru but I am still inking him ATM. I just wanted to post him up just in case I botch up the inking job. There are pockets on the jacket just to let you know. As for the moon I drew it creatively not really relying on the actual moon itself. I was going to use the same sketch as Gru's plan to steal the moon, which was a bunch of circles thrown in for fun.

With that being said, may I offer you some advice?
Usually one introduces oneself politely and waits to get to know someone better before jumping in with "brutally honest" critiques. You are coming across as rude not because of what you are saying, but because this is how you are introducing yourself to Hari-Koen.
I am currently in the midst of compiling a collage that celebrates the different art styles that Gru has been drawn in and Hari-Koen has been included in that collage. I have included her because I like her style (especially here with the sketchiness)--it goes beyond simple reproduction of screencaps and helps us see Gru as she sees him.
One final thought: I would like to see your art. Not to bash it, as you no doubt are thinking right now, but to just to see it. I want to see Gru as you see Gru. I believe in being supportive of all artists and I wish to include you in that number.

I do everything in my sketchbooks, I can't believe how much porn I have on them now. If I buy another one to bring with me I'm afraid it'll also have naughty pics in it too.
