chiaroscuro is the lighting technique where you put the most intense colours next to their opposites (usually darkest to lightest). people look for the darkest places and the parts that connect them (called lines by most) and then draw from those. it's really good if you have to draw specular highlights (like shiny chrome) or if you softly go from dark to light

oh i see... well, this is quite an old work of mine, but thanks to the outcome it's still one of my favourite xD but regretably - I didn't use any special technique, I simply drew that as much similar to the ref picture as possible, so in that case - It was the art of the photographer 
that reminds me to put here info of the actual size of my pictures xDD this one is like 20cmx12cm - I have a long way to become better xD
