Luck and skill - a great shot of a raptor doing what they do so well!
I believe SteamPunkOwl made the sex call (female) based on the plumages of the American Kestrel Falco sparverius.
Face and wing markings show this bird to be a male Common (or Eurasian) Kestrel - Falco tinnunculis.
Us North Americans can be a bit myopic when it comes to common bird names. I've made the same kind of mistake before.
Your Kestrel makes casual appearances on both of our coasts (and the Aleutian Islands), but not very often.

Beautiful female kestrel! You can tell its a female because her wings are brown and a males are blue such as this one [link]
Not all raptors can be sexed this way but this one can! And I could be wrong, but the kill may be some kind of field mouse or some kind of small bird like a sparrow.

thanks very much
i didn't know it was a female
the 'kill' was fluffy & had 2 legs ( guess that narrows it down )
thanks for your comment
