I'm forever showing people the video on Youtube. Starts off quite dull, then they flypast what is either a county or a leander, (quality is awfull),BELOW main deck height!

I remember a shot from the first gulf war where the crew of one of the two US Battleships were cheering them as the passed by, below their main deck height, there were a lot of amazed expressions that day, hehehe.

The bucs had wave following radar, they just dialled in a height above the waves, and off they went. I believe this was the worlds first terrain following radar. Rumour has it, the Tornado's and Typhoon's have newer versions of it installed.

Fabulous aircraft, not likely to be emulated any time soon.

i have seen the video awesome

Raf Flying

indeed so and i think the rumor is true

Indeed, no aircraft today are designed by computer
Bucc etc were done by string and chewing gum

The Bucc always had a VERY solid look about it

They all seem to use the same computers too, Typhoon, Drakken(?) and Rafale, all look as though they came out of the same box.

Awesome photo of a plane i have seen so many times. I love the Buccaneer and it really takes me back to some happy days in the Armed Forces. Some of the LOWEST flying aircraft i have ever seen

image of intruder [link]

The Grumman A-6 Intruder was a twin jet-engine, mid-wing attack aircraft built in the United States by Grumman Aerospace. In service with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps between 1963 and 1997, the Intruder was designed as an all-weather replacement for the piston-engined A-1 Skyraider medium attack aircraft. A specialized electronic warfare derivative, the EA-6B Prowler, remains in service as of 2010. As the A-6E was slated for retirement, its precision strike mission was taken over by the now retired F-14 Tomcat equipped with LANTIRN pod.

First major difference:

Intruder has side to side seating. Buccanner has tandem seating.

Note the large oval side intakes on the Buc, the smaller ones down the fuselage on the Intruder.

Note the pointed radome on the Bucc, not rounded like an Intruder.

High-mounted tail on the Bucc.

Internal bomb bay bulge on the Bucc, no internal Bomb Bay on an Intruder.

The only remotely similar aspect is the in-flight refueling probe on both types.

VERY different carrier strike aircraft, even though they were both developed in roughly the same period.
