The one thing that Kitching overlooked in the final storyline in the printed comic.

I love the cleanliness (sp?) of line and the depth of colour too!
The texture on the rock is interesting, how did you do that?
And how do you clean up your lines once you've inked them?
I bought myself a flexible curve today you showed us at SOS, hopefully I'll be trying it out soon!

The line is inked digitally in Illustrator. If I need to adjust the lines, I can use the smooth tool, or play with the 'handles' on the curves, or 'restroke' them, which redraws the direction of the line without affecting its quality of thickness, so I tend to concentrate on the quality of variation of the line at first, rather than trying to be accurate as to its placement. There was an awful lot of adjusting going on when I first started using Illustrator (I almost gave up a few times), but as I've got used to it, I can usually get most lines pretty accurate first time.
I keep a library of textures that I can overlay over the rendered colour and blend it in in different ways. many of these are created by me playing around with Photoshop randomly, but recently I've started using more 'natural' textures, using photographs I've taken of rock, gravel etc.

Ah I think I remember you saying now at SOS that you took photos of textures and put them into a library.
It's a great technique and style and works very well.
I haven't used Illustrator since our Mac workshops at Uni! I wouldn't mind grabbing myself a copy at some point. The lines you create in photoshop (using the pen tool) are similar aren't they? only in illustrator its vectors not pixels? and am I correct in saying that this means there is no "pixellation" or distortion and your pieces can be blown up to any size?

Crucially in Illustrator, the lines created with the brush tool are created with pressure sensitivity (if you use a suitable graphics tablet), which can be adjusted to give all sorts of different brushes, depending on what I'm doing, ranging from fine detail or technical work to broad brush strokes for cartooning. I also use non-pressure sensitive, but textured 'art' brushes for things like rocks, foliage etc.
I'm told that Photoshop's vector capabilities are vastly improved since the version that I use, so you can probably achieve similar things with it now, but I learnt with Illustrator and it does pretty much everything I want.
Yes, vector artwork can be enlarged without degradation. Particularly good for logos.

This is an amazing scene you've put together here. Other than the fact that it really highlights their rivalry well, it looks like a poster I'd expect to see in the actual comics back during the run.

Looks great but I'm more curious not on the price (as you said Β£5 each) but on the type of paper it'll be printed on. I'll probs buy them at SoS regardless but it's something I'm interested in.
Cardstock, photopaper etc

I'm getting them printed on gloss photo paper, reasonable weight (100, 120 gsm?) judging by what I've had in the past. Not had anything bigger than A4 printed before, so it's a bit of a gamble. Fingers crossed they turn out OK.
