Hate to seem "cold"
but, in my personal opinion, abandoning Eva at a questionable boarding school,
and, NEVER make any contact with her for ten years seems like a very POOR choice.
I mean..Eva lost her mother.
what makes Don think that losing her father would make things better??
I like to look at it like" "What if Maya could see what he is doing from wherever she is now.."
I would say she would be ashamed, and disappointed in him.
I hate to sound cruel, but Don Wei was a coward for leaving his only daughter..
the only remnant left of his wife,
and, then going through life like she didn't exist, anymore.

They´re my favorite anime couple!
Don Wei shouldn´t leave Eva after lose Maya, and it´s easy judge him as a jerk... but when I saw the look in his eyes in the scene when he is leaving Eva on the school and walking under the rain... it just broke my heart.
And all the scenes when he, Maya and Eva were a happy family... it was so moving...
All the way watching Oban I was wishing for Don Wei to become the same sweet man & father he was when Maya was alive, for Eva´s good.
